I'm new on the board, and am hoping to find someone who can possibly help with giving a diabetic cat shots while I'm out of town next week. The cat will be staying at my mother's house in Naperville, IL, which the cat is familiar and comfortable with. Staying in a cage at the vet's office stresses the cat. The cat is very particular about who she is friendly with besides me, and is quick to bite. My mother is in her 70s, and likes my two cats very much. It frustrates her that she is not able to help with something as important as the shots the one cat needs. The cat does well with 2 units in the morning and in the evening.

If anyone thinks they might be able to help, please drop me a line at vstrazzabosco@yahoo.com for more details.

Thanks!

Had a few thoughts:
Check for vet techs wanting to pick up some extra money by monitoring your cat while away. Start with offices near your mom.

Alternatively, students in vet tech, or nursing, could be trained.

Hi, Vince ~

Wish we could help since we're in your area, but we're going to be out of town on business ourselves for the next couple of weeks. If there's no one on FDMB to help, here are a couple of ideas:

See if a vet tech or vet assistant at the Abbeywood Cat Clinic in Naperville might be able to go to your mom's home to give the shots to your cat. http://abbeywoodcatclinic.com/index.php

Check with Happy Paws Pet Care to see if someone there could give the shots. Ernie Stewart has lots of experience taking care of kitties.

Hope one of these options might work out for you, Vince.

Take care,

Thanks for the replies!

I called the regular vet and some others and they did not have any techs would would be able to do so. But they did suggest what was my next step, pet sitters.

I have found a local pet sitter who is familiar with diabetic cats who will be able to give her her shots....if she can catch the kitty and get the shot in.

I'll post an update once I know how it's going.

Hi, Vince ~

Glad you found a pet sitter to help with your cat's shots. Is there any way your Mom can put your cat in a smaller area/room of the house right before the pet sitter arrives? That way, the pet sitter won't have to chase your cat and will be more likely to succeed in giving the shots.

Please let us know how things go. Hope it's a smooth week while you're away. Have a good trip.
