Introducing Ourselves - Sandra and Jack

I've been reading the forum for several days now and feel it's time to introduce myself and my cat. I'm Sandra and my cat Jack (10 year old male, orange, 18 pounds with a goal of 16 pounts) was diagnosed with diabetes on Jan 9, 2012. The vet feels there's a good possibility for control through diet modification. He's now eating only canned food with less than 7% carbs (per the vet's recommendation). He doesn't even miss not having dry food.

It appears we have many similar questions/concerns when newly diagnosed and the forum responses I've been reading have been so very helpful and enlightening that as of this moment I can't think of anything else to ask. Any advice, of course, will be very appreciated. Thank you.

HI Sandra & Jack, glad you found this site. I'm a newbie myself (only been doing the sugar dance for about a month) but i've learned a lot from the super folks here. I hope Jack can go into remission with a diet change but if not don't hesitate to ask questions about insulin here. Jan

Mystery, thanks so much for the link. I read that message during one of my many "reading" sessions here at the forum, but read it again. It's great advice. It's hard for me to remain "calm" when feeling so overwhelmed, but I'm slowing getting "in the groove" to handle diabetes again. There's a lot to learn when dealing with a diabetic cat even though I cared for my diabetic mother during the last 10 years of her life.
