Hi, my name is Alexis and I'm mom to Nikki and Dee. Nikki was dx'ed with diabetes in April. She's approx 9-10 years old and has an elusive gastrointestinal issue. She's always been gassy and had random bouts of minor diarrhea but late last summer the bouts became more frequent and painful for her. Unfortunately she was overweight at just under 18 lbs. At that point I had tried Wellness, Orijen, Nutro Max, low residue prescription, limited ingredient (1st Royal Canin lamb, then venison, and then Instinct Turkey). At the worst point last December I thought we were going to lose her, as she had was losing pure water with her diarrhea and was clearly miserable. At that point since we had tried Flagyl, enzymes, omega 3's, aloe juice, and probiotics, our last resort was prednisolone. She had an ultrasound last November that had no obvious issues visible. All of her bloodwork has been relatively normal. So we're not really sure what she's got.

Thankfully, a combo of the pred and Hill's wet z/d got her diarrhea under control. Then she started losing weight. At dx she was 10.9 lbs. At this point she is no longer on the pred, but she cannot eat anything except the z/d as her diarrhea immediately gets worse. On z/d, she generally has 2 somewhat solid BM's a day, and seems comfortable. Unfortunately, it is high carb, which makes this sugar dance more complicated.

I work 5 days a week in NYC and am out of the house from 7:45 until 6:15 or so, which makes it difficult to test more than 3 times a day, except on weekends. After a fructosamine test just before Memorial Day our vet suggested upping her dose from 1 u to 2 u BID. I'm not comfortable with that so I started her at 1.5u BID. Upped it to 1.75 and her numbers are a little lower than I'm used to, so I went with 1.5 tonight. Think I'll keep her there for a few more cycles.

That's our story thus far. I know I don't have a lot of data, so not expecting dose advice, but wanted to say hi!

Thank you! This whole thing is so nerve wracking. I hate that I'm not home much. It's been a big adjustment also to *have* to be home every night. She's doing better this weekend though, liking all the yellows I'm seeing! :-D
