Hi all,

My name is Laura. My husband and I have 3 kitties, one of which is a 13-year-old Tabby named Bella who was diagnosed with Diabetes in October 2017.

She has other unknown and complicated health issues as well, so it's all been very overwhelming and difficult for us, and I'm hoping to find some support here.

Thanks for all that you guys do.

Hi Laura and Bella.

We have several other health issues being dealt with here and some really good advice to be given.

What insulin is Bella on? Is she regulated at this point in time?

Hi there. :)

Bella is on Vetsulin and not quite regulated yet.

Actually our vet recently was questioning Bella's diabetic diagnosis altogether and wanted us to take her off of insulin for two weeks and then run some extra tests that apparently weren't run in the beginning, but I tested her at home after skipping only one morning dose and her blood sugar was very high so we reinstated the insulin immediately.

Our vet didn't really give much reasoning as to why she was questioning the diagnosis, other than she's not sure Bella is regulared yet and that it seems abnormal that we haven't increased her dose past 1 unit.

I've heard that Vetsulin isn't the best choice, so maybe that's part of the problem.

Vetsulin is an in and out insulin. There is a forum here that you can post on for that particular insulin. Some other options are Lantus or pro inc.

Have you discussed with your vet different insulin options?

We can help you with Vetsulin dosing. If you go over to the main health forum we can get started. Please give us the following info over there:
  • Bella's age and date of diagnosis
  • that you're using Vetsulin
  • whether you're testing her blood glucose at home and. if so, what meter you use
  • what she eats
  • any other meds/health issues she has.

For some it works well, others not so much. Glad to hear you know how to home test. If we can get you to set up a spreadsheet like the one you see in our signatures we may be ankle to help with dose suggestions to get her better regulated.

Thank you guys for the welcome and starting to chat with me about Bella, but with incredble grief, I just wanted to let you know that she passed away last Saturday.
