Well the new foster kitty is home and saying he's a BIG boy is an understatement!!! He's HUGE, I've picked up toddlers that didn't weigh as much. He's a big guy build wise to begin with but he's also morbiditly obese. Between his weight and 46% carb dry food no wonder he's on 11u bid of Levemir.

His poor fill in mom she just about broke down when she handed him over to me. I can tell she loves him bunches but just walking into the same room sends her husband to the hospital so no way they could keep and treat him.

On the upside he's a handsome fella and very docile. He's easy to test and his first test at +9.5 was 135 even after a two hour drive and moving into a strange place with a small zoo all wanting to say Hi.

Aw1 What a sweet-looking big man he is! He's in the best place right now for him. If anyone is going to get his weight and insulin sorted, it's YOU! :thumbup How is he getting along with all your other kitties?

Well today hasn't been a good day numbers wise for him so he's grumpy with everyone. But he's figured out pate is good as long as it isn't soup. Working on getting water into it slowly.

He gets ear pokes equals chicken but ha. sn't figured out Pokey FIRST. So he's now not fighting the test but he's squirming to get the chicken. And frankly I don't have a towel big enough to burrito him. :o

He'll get there just baby steps. He's had a rough last year and an especially a really rotten last 48 hours.

Well, that's when you pile up the chicken and let him munch away at it while you test. ;-) That's the only way I can get Henry (non-diabetic) to stay put long enough for a test even if he is Mr. Squirmy-Pants.

We have progress, he came to me on his own for his pmps test. He's starting to iniate contact for affection.

Then we run to Walmart for more test strips (man I forgot how much you really do test in the first week or two ) I go in the bathroom to check on him and he's out exploring the bedroom. Comes up for more pets and even purred. Poor guy is down on his hocks but I can't tell if it's weight or neuropathy. Just added to the list of stuff to work on.

You'll get him better. Just be careful on the speed of weight loss; don't want to set off feline hepatic lipidosis.
