Introducing Billy and me

hello .. sadly Billy (aka William or Crazy bill) has been diagnosed with diabetes .. this is a real blow for me .. i already have another little cat with lymphoma but he is quite co operative and doing far better than expected . Billy is a very anxious cat and handling unless initiated by him is stressful for him (and us).. so i dread medicating him. At this stage we have yet to settle on his medications. I'm sure there will be others here facing similar challenges.

I’m sure someone more experienced will weigh in soon but I just wanted to say welcome! You’ve definitely come to the right place.

It can be really overwhelming at first, but there is so much accumulated experience and knowledge here. And a bunch of cat moms and dads who’ve been in your shoes and can relate to how you feel.

My cat Moonie is very cooperative now, but she was really skittish when I first got her and I remember looking at YouTube tutorials of people with the calmest cats giving injections and doing blood glucose tests and thinking “you must be kidding me.” But with time, we settled into this routine. I save all of our highest value treats for testing and injection time and I give her a hype up parade with lots of claps as she struts into her testing room. And I’ve come to learn how she likes to be pet and sung to as I massage her ears before testing. And now unless it’s a very heavy testing day, it’s almost a nice bonding ritual for us. It’s a stressful learning process for both cat and human, but with time, it’s become a regular part of the day.

Dare I ask how Crazy Bill got his name?

Crazy bill (william)s one of his names because he really is a headcase at times .. we adopted him after i got a phone call from a local pet shop saying they couldnt put him in the shop because he was just too scared .. we had just lost an old cat and wanted company for Harry who was just a young cat. Anyway like a mug i went and got him. He is a beautiful cat and was a gorgeous kitten but totally terrified and obviously had escaped from somewhere and run wild for a while as he had giardia. Harry adopted him and mothered him but Billy has always been scared of being handled unless he initiates the contact. Piks of Billy as a kitten with his hero Harry and as a handsome young man.
