While researching shipping of insulin for my new FD I found these articles that may show we are basing our actions on Insulin storage on information and studies that are outdated. I am not suggesting anyone stop storing in refrigerator but does bring up questions about storage temps for shipping travel, etc. Just FYI

The insulins used are not entirely clear (rapid, NPH/isophane and pre-mixed rapid/NPH insulins (mixed)), four other analogue insulin formulations). Rapid (or R) is not used as a basal insulin and none of the other insulins are used in cats. I have no idea what they are referring to as "four other analogue insulin formulations.

The one month that they were using the insulin is a relatively short period for using insulin for a cat that is on an average dose. An insulin pen, which contains substantially less than a vial, could last me 3 months. A vial often lasts 6 mos for a cat. The insulin pens were developed to be more travel friendly and do not require refrigeration. However, given the smaller amount that we use for most of our kitties, it is a bit of insurance to keep the insulin refrigerated.
