Insulin Side Effects?

Only thing I know of is some cats find the injections sting, but as far as I know that is typically only at higher dose levels.
 
I've not seen side effects but it's a possibility. If your cat has always been prescribed Lantus, I doubt you'd see side effects after this amount of time. What is it that you're seeing?
 
he started out on vetsulin in late jan 2022, which did not work on him.

he was switched to lantus in late march 2022.

About seven months ago, he started walking in circles, being spaced out and showing other signs of dementia. He was on a very high dose for quite some time and then his numbers just started dropping pretty rapidly.

We are trying to understand if anyone else has seen a correlation between insulin and cognitive function.
 
From both looking at Buddy's spreadsheet and your description, have you given any thought to getting him tested for acromegaly? Just because Buddy is now at a lower dose, doesn't rule acro out. There are just too many details that fit with acro that at the very least, I'd give some thought to getting it ruled out or in.
 
I've not seen here or heard of any correlation between insulin and cognitive function, unless related to hypos. As far as circling goes, the only connection I've seen is to cats with acromegaly like this recent one: Ruckus circling update However, circling isn't a common side effect and has to do with the pituitary tumour, not the insulin. Back early summer you said you were going to get the IGF-1 test done, just wondering how that worked out.

I see you gave 2.75 units today. Try not to react to the pinks, but instead give the depot time to stabilize. It could have been New Dose Wonkiness. He was seeing green numbers on 2.0 units just 5 days ago, and you are up to 2.75 units. Please test a little more often than usual with that faster than protocol increase.
 
Is he on any medications or supplements other than the cisapride and miralax? If so, when we’re they started?

Edited to add: Also, when was his blood pressure last checked? Has his vision been checked? (What do his pupils look like)

Thanks. It was a very very sad and hard time for us, and still is. Not a day goes by that we don't speak of him or miss him.
