Hi all,
I posted in the health forum, but I'm wondering if you specialized folks have any advice.
I haven't been around much the last couple of months. Odie was doing reasonably well.
These last couple of weeks, I've noticed his BG slowly creeping upwards. The last few days it's consistently higher than normal (see his chart). He's also obviously not feeling very well (lethargic, mopey, curled up on my bed) and I'm having a hard time convincing him to eat. He'll eat a bit of something one day and then refuse it.
He was confirmed to have pancreatitis in March 2009 (PLI = 15.3). He was also diagnosed with IBD (although we did not do the
scope/surgery for confirmation, everything else pointed to it). He lost about 2 pounds in those first few months (which he's since regained). In February 2010, he was diagnosed with diabetes, probably as a result of being on Dexasone. By April 2010, he was off of Dexasone and completely switched over to Budesonide. His dose of Lantus went from 3 units 2X day to 0.7-1 units 2X day.
May 2010, a couple of weeks ago, I started noticing that he was eating a little bit less and that his blood glucose numbers were rising slightly. Cyclosporine was added to the mix about a week ago. So far I'm not seeing any improvement. His internal medicine specialist thinks the increased BG is due to insulin resistance caused by whatever is acting up in his gut.
June 2010, the last 3 days, he's been difficult to convince to eat (I'm having to try lots of different foods, sometimes resorting to boneless, skinless chicken or (human) tuna. His blood glucose numbers are markedly higher (around 12 (204) in the morning and 10 (170) in the evening). If I had to guess, I'd say he's in pain. He's so mopey and is spending most of his time laying on the bed. He's not
throwing up (much) - the last time was 1 week ago and it was clear frothy liquid (same one week before that). His stool has been alright, except two days ago it was a bit soft. The other problem is that he does not respond well to pain meds (Tramadol and Torbugesic both cause dilated pupils, freaky behaviour, and like mini-seizures/twitching). I'm wondering if there is any pain med that's different enough from those that would be worth trying.
I replaced his vial of Lantus, just in case it had lost its potency, no difference.
So summarizing his meds:
Morning:
1/4 pepcid tablet
25mg cyclosporine
2mg chlorambucil (leukeran) every 48 hours
1 unit Lantus
Evening:
1/4 pepcid tablet
25mg cyclosporine
3mg budesonide
1 unit Lantus
He sees an internal medicine specialist and she has been great with him. She's starting to run out of ideas though.
I guess I'm just looking for any advice,
Thanks

PS - his spreadsheet is up to date as of yesterday. I will go add the rest.
