LOL, I think I need to change my sex, everyone thinks im a she...hahahaha...plus im color blind so that dang SS fools me sometime @Deb & Wink, Deb always helps me out with the male/female and color blind thing... But I get it most of the people on here are women....And really it was a general question, but I am getting low and Walmart ran out of the real cheap ones so now I run to CVS, a little more expensive but worth it.....

Deb has so much to do! All drugstores have lancets. I use them once because they are so cheap. My job is to sterilize instruments after surgery. I would not use a lancet more than once but it could be fine.

I know Deb has a ton to do..great woman...has helped me out so so much.. I didn’t tag her for help...it’s an ongoing thing we have going from when I first joined...sorta like a little funny thing with people saying “she or her” on my posts and my color blindness.., I was just asking a question on lancet reuse for an opinion to see if it’s an okay practice... I realize they should be sterilized.
 
This really may be a really really stupid question, but I have to ask it just to so I can continue to learn....is insulin resistance defined as insulin not working, meaning it keeps the sugar very high or at higher levels and doesn't help the cat get into lower numbers. Or, Can it also be associated to a cat dropping extremely fast in short periods of time? I know the definition of resistance, but in the diabetic world could it have several meanings?

When I first fostered Wink from the shelter, they only gave me a very limited number of lancets. I was sterilizing them in 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA). I counted each cycle as one lancet to be used, and only changed the lancet for each cycle, sterilizing in between pokes for that cycle. Not the best, but it was what it was. Sterile one use only of both lancets and needles is best.

Of course right now, IPA is hard to come by, only available in limited quantities. Lancets are fairly inexpensive. There is the very slight risk of infection from the pokes. A tiny bit of triple antibiotic ointment on the ear, after the poke can help.
