Insulin out of fridge

Hello,

My cat's sugar is significantly high. I went to give him his shot and realized I had left his ProZinc insulin out all day. The house was at 70 degrees all day.... Can I still use it? I put it in the fridge while I await an answer.

I think all of us have left the insulin out at one time or another. It is probably fine, you can use it, just beware if you start getting higher readings than usual it could be the insulin. That being said I don't think any of us have had the insulin go bad after leaving it out. Nothing is a guarantee though so like I said just keep that in mind.

THANK YOU!!!!! I was literally sitting here nailbite_smile since I posted that! Luckily I had Mr. Mittens on my lap purring trying to keep me calm. Kitties are so wonderful!

I will also post an update on our loving Mr. Mittens...
After going without insulin for several months he seemed to be doing fine until he threw up blood. Of course I took him to the vet immediately. Turns out it was gastro-something or other. He has one more antibiotic pill to take and he seems to be doing much better. The vet thinks it is a combo of higher bg levels and his taste for dog food. I have told him numerous times not to eat it, but he just wont listen! The dogs even stand there and watch him eat their food! Crazy...

So we are back to 1 U 2x daily

That's funny....my dog used to love to eat the dry cat food! That must have been pretty scary to see him throw up blood! Glad he's doing better. Come on over to the PZI board. There's actually a few people on right now but usually this time of night it's pretty quiet. You can post the insulin question over there also...just to get some different opinions.
