Insulin misinjection?

Hi all,

My cat Bagheera got diagnosed on 21/02/24. He is 9y 7 months old. We are struggling a little bit as he has a bit of a temper and I believe he is dodging our insulin injections.

What I mean is he knows when we are going to inject him and he tenses up his muscles a lot. Because he has lost a lot of weight, it is very hard to catch skin flap to inject and I believe this has been leading to me potentially misinjecting although I have not seen or felt any insulin on his fur.

I would sincerely appreciate any advice as this is very new to us and he has me very worried.

If you've not felt any wet spot after you've given an injection, it's very likely that you're doing things correctly. When you're giving him a shot, are you doing so while he's eating? That may help. My cat was very food motivated and she ignored my giving a shot if she had her head in her bowl.

Thanks for getting your spreadsheet set up. I'm assuming you're not in the US. If it's not too much trouble, can you take a look at this post on helping us to help you? Most of the members here are in the US and we use mg/dL and not mmol/L for our blood glucose readings. The spreadsheet template that's in the link I provided will convert the World numbers to US numbers automatically on a separate tab. The link also provides information on how to set up your signature. Without that information, there's a good chance we'll keep asking the same questions repeatedly. As an example, do you know what the carbohydrate count is for the foods you're giving Bagheera? We recommend a diet that is well below 10% carbohydrate.

Just looking at your cat's spreadsheet, it's likely that he needs a dose increase. I'd also suggest taking a look at the sticky notes on the Prozinc page. There's a great deal of information about Prozinc, dosing, etc.
