Insulin from Canada

I have seen several people mention that they are able to get their insulin from Canada for much less expense. what is the lead time needed to order? I order my people prescriptions from Canada but must allow 6 weeks or to actually receive the meds.

I have not ordered insulin from Canada but my impression is that it doesn't take very long in transit. I do know the pharmacy will not ship it in bad weather, to keep the insulin safe to use.

it may not take long in actual transit, but in my experience with people meds from Canada what takes long is the processing of the order/payment of the order and the fact that most of the drugs (or all of them) come from other countries like India, Turkey, etc. When I order people meds it usually take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to get. I have not used the company that I have seen mentioned here (Marks Marine I think), so was just wondering.

"I found a great place in Canada to get our insulin at that's a lot cheaper than it is here in the US. It's a real pharmacy, not one of those "website pharmacies". You can even call and talk to the pharmacist if you need extra help (not some salesperson) They do require a prescription, but it can be faxed or emailed. Their customer service is wonderful!

The pharmacy is Marks Marine Pharmacy

A lot of people from the Facebook group have used them and are very happy. It has taken about a week to get delivery (even as far away as Texas and Florida) and insulin is shipped with a medical grade icepack as well as enclosed in a special envelope designed to control temperature. I ordered from them first in late June and even though there were 2 postal holidays during that time, still got it within 10 days

They carry both Lantus and Levemir

During the winter they will want to know what kind of temperatures you're expecting in your area before they ship so there's no chance of your insulin freezing in transit, so if you can, plan ahead and order when it's not going to be any problem!!

In the summer, it's best to try to order when your temps are forecast to be under 90 for the upcoming week, but as I said earlier, I had no choice but to order in late June my first time and although our temps were in the 90's, I was still able to use every drop of the pens I got."

thank you for the detailed info. when I got Rex's first pen the vet just wrote out the scrip since they were out of it at the office and told me to go to any pharmacy and get it filled. the pharmacy would only sell me 5 pens to the tune of over $400, not including the needles. they were however nice enough at the vet's office to buy four of the pens from me. so I ended up getting a nice credit to my acct, but still I paid almost as much for one pen as the Canadian pharmacy is charging for five. so, have you ordered five pens? it takes a long time to use up that many, doesn't it? the pens don't last that long do they? what do you do with the extra pens?

A 5 pack of pens is 1500 units...so if your cat is on 2U twice a day, that'll last about a year...if your cat is on less, it'll last longer!

You can use every drop in the pens....each pen holds 300 units

The extra pens I just leave in the box and in the refrigerator so when I need another one, they're there and ready to use!....unless they've been used, they're good until the expiration date on the box....usually at least 2 years away
 
I just this month purchased Lantus from a Canadian pharmacy, Mark's Marine Pharmacy. You can do it all online, scan in your prescription, and pay online. One of the employees (since it's a real brick and mortar store in Vancouver) emailed me and then called me immediately to confirm they received the prescription and let me know the final cost. Shipping is mandatory express air for $25 and the Lantus (10ml bottle) was $100 (those are US currency too). The lady told me I should have the insulin within 2 weeks. It took 12 days to get to me. You have to be available to sign for the delivery (or pick up at local post office like I did). It came very well packaged and the bottle still felt cold to the touch. The other nice thing is they provide tracking info so you can track it. The longest part was getting it to Sam Francisco where it went through customs (took a day). From that point it took 2 days total to get to Michigan and my local post office. If you have the time spare, I think it's worth it! If my Joey needs to stay on insulin, I'll order again from them. I originally "found" Marks a few years ago (my post is above).....they are so wonderful!!

I really have to wonder if they have any idea how many cats' lives they've saved by making it possible for us to afford to treat them?

Next time I call and talk to Jordan (the pharmacy manager) I think I'll ask him if they have the scripts marked as "pet"....if they do, they may be able to give me an idea of how many kitties they've saved! Would be interesting to find out as well as reminding them what a valuable service they are providing.

My last re-order was called in on a Monday afternoon and it was here on Friday....I think that refills are even faster since they don't have to verify scripts or anything
