Insulin dosage recommendation

Hello folks.

I've recently transitioned Jackson to all wet food. No more dry! His numbers are going down, and now I'm about ready to switch from the pen to using a syringe so I can more accurately control his dosage. My spreadsheet is updated. Right now, I'm giving him 1IU twice a day unless his numbers are low. (Yesterday morning, it was low enough to not require insulin.)

Does 1IU seem correct based on his numbers, and how will I know when it's time to switch to a lower dosage and start using the syringe? Which I'm still nervous about. Could someone point me to a video that shows how to use it? I did receive training from a vet tech last week, but I should have waited until it was time to switch because now I don't remember all the details.

Also looking at your SS you are not testing the morning AMPS and PMPS every day
You also need to be getting at least 2 tests during rack 12 hour cycle to see how the insulin is working for Jackson. I see you are following SLGS method on your spreadsheet can you please add that to your signature also.With SLGS you hold the dose for 7 days then do a curve , testing every 2 hours for 12 hours, if he drops below 90 at any time you need to decrease by 0.25 units .

You are following SLGS and not testing enough for TR. a reduction was earned on 3/19 by dropping under 68 on the AT. We would have told you to reduce to .75.

Congrats on ditching the dry. You heed to test before every shot and get a curve every 7 days or get tests to find the nadir.

You definitely need to shoot with a syringe and get some with half unit markings. How soon can you get them? Today would be best as 1.0 is too high. You need a dose you can safely shoot every 12 hours. I would say take the dose down to .50 but using a pen you can’t.
 
If you live anywhere near a Walmart, you can get the 1/2 marked syringes there. Call first though because they don’t always have them in stock. I had to call 3 yesterday to find them. I paid a little under $13 for the box of 100. Here’s what you’re looking for:

Okay, thanks. I think I am understanding most of your recommendations, but many of the acronyms don't make sense to me. For example, in this sentence (except I do know what SLGS means):

I already have the correct syringes which allow smaller doses. I can't test him as much as I would like because of work. I might try the Freestyle Libra because I think that might be easier for the next few weeks. I'm pretty confident I can get him into remission now.

Are you following SLGS? With SLGS reductions are taken if under 90 and the new dose is held for 7 days. Then you di a curve testing every 2 hours fir 12 hours or every 3 hours for 18 hours. Dosing is based upon nadirs. I gave not idea how low he’s going but do know a reduction was earned on 3/19. Since the dry food has been eliminated that alone will impact the bg. If you can only test at preshot I would lower the dose to .5. If you can test and get curves you could try .75.
 
Okay, I successfully administered .5 using a syringe. A first for me. Phew. One step at a time. Have arranged for Freestyle thingy to be attached a week from tomorrow. In the meantime, I will test each morning and evening before shooting. I must admit I don't fully understand all of the advice here, but I will review the Lantus protocols to see if that sheds some light. Part of my confusion is the numbers. I'm in Canada so I'm using world, whereas you are using U.S. I'm lousy at math to begin with. :)
