Insulin change, no change in low blood sugar

I'm new to the forum. I adopted my boy from the humane society. He's a brown Tabby 6 years old. Had no idea he was diabetic until I took him to the vet for the first time. He was over 600 on blood sugar. Vet had me start with Prozinc slow at 1unit, then 2units, then 3units (when it was still over 300). Went to 4 unites and at next vet check he had a blood sugar of 54. Keep in mind, my cat's behavior did not change, except that instead of a urine output 3 time normal, it became normal. So, they had me back off by week one half unit by week. Now at 2.5 units twic a day. And I have been monitoring him with a Alpha Trak 2 monitor. I check him 6 hours after feeding and it stays incredibly low (44 - 55). But his behavior is fine. Help?

Hi! 44-55 is very low on an AlphaTrak meter - is that a reading from right now? If so, please rub honey on gums and recheck in 20 minutes. On the AlphaTrak, you want him to be at or above 68 for safety reasons. @Christie & Maverick are you still on to help advise?

As Susanne said, readings of 44-55 on AT2 are too low. I wouldn't give 2.5u of Prozinc anymore, and from what you say, it may be the increases in dose were too much too soon. With the dosing methods we follow here on the forum, we make dose adjustments in 0.25u increments.

Here is the Prozinc Dosing Methods Info

without seeing any test data, it is hard for me to gauge what is happening, but it is clear that 2.5u is too much insulin at the moment. Can you enter in some of the recent data you have into a spreadsheet? People with Prozinc experience can then offer some additional suggestions regarding the dose.

How to Create a Spreadsheet

Please let us know how your boy is doing tonight, if you recently got lower readings this evening, it would be suggested to feed some higher carb food, and please continue to test his blood glucose to make sure he is going back up.
