I have been told about an incremental dosing method that may assist in remission of a diabetic cat, especially one they think may be due to steroid shot. Has anyone heard of this protocol? Sounds like very small amt throughout day hours to keep BG level and lasting for about 2-3 weeks and hopefully remission then.

Hello Sad! My cat was only recently diagnosed (about 3 weeks ago) so I am not a super-pro like many of the users here but I sure have learned a lot! You're in a great place to get help for your kitty.

I have never heard of incremental dosing in all of my research. Frankly, the concept sounds frightening/unecessary to me. Perhaps someone else here will know more.

If you check out my chart, it looks as if my cat is headed (fingers crossed) into remission.

What I have done:
- Switched from 100% dry food to 100% wet food (w/d @ first based on vet recommendation then now go Fancy Feast Classic based on this forum).
- This past week 1 tbs 100% pumpkin purée with each meal. Good for digestive upset & seems to be good for glucose management.
- Super strict with schedule of testing, dosing & feeding. It's like clockwork here: 10am, test feed shoot or no shot, 3pm mid cycle test, 10pm test, feed, shoo or no shot.
- Home testing is a must. Definitely would have sent kitty to rainbow heaven without it.
- My cat is on Novolin N (one of the harsher insulins) therefore I am extra careful with his pre shot test numbers when dosing. I do not shoot any insulin at all under 150.

This is my experience with a newly diagnosed kitty. I am not a vet. I'm not sure if this is right for your kitty, just wanted to pass along what seems to be working well for me.

Good luck!
