Before his diagnosis, he pretty much either had diarrhea or he pooped normal logs. He has had kidney disease officially since 2020. Previously this was managed with plenty of available water, and kidney disease specific wet food.
Since his diabetes diagnosis, I've transitioned him to meat only (with EZcomplete) which he has had no problems with. His water intake is high as usual, however now he poops 2 or 3 small, hard pellets every other day. His bowel movements have been every other day for the past 2 years but the new thing is how small and hard the feces are.
Since he's started lantus, he's had about 3 incidents where he really struggled to poop. He does eventually get it out but under duress. Today was the worst I've seen, crying, walking around, licking his butt, all until a 2nd pellet falls out. Today his butt also looked swollen, leading me to believe he was prolapsed but it looks normal now.
I have an appointment tomorrow for 1:30 to rule out any glandular issues or to see if his KD has somehow rapidly advanced in the month since his last bloodwork, but i'm curious if any of you all have had this happen before and what I can do at home to help him? He's 18 and I don't want a situation where he needs surgery or anesthesia, I can't see that ending to well for him.
