Just wonder how one would prevent the cat fro scratching the patch off.

That would definitely be a challenge, but medication patches are sometimes used with cats. When I had a cat with cancer, one of the pain med options was a fentanyl patch. I went with injectible buprenorphine (long-acting 3 day version). I think with the patch, they place it in a difficult to access location, and also bandage it. Guessing the bandage would wrap around the cat's body, so even if they couldn't reach the patch, they would pull at the bandage.

I think it would be wonderful if they can get it to work. I used a pain patch (Butrans) for a while, but the adhesive gave me a terrible rash. The thing is, that if they could be made to be long lasting, that would give the patient a much better QOL.
