my cat jack is newly diagnosed, he is 3 weeks in his numbers have been checking on the high end.... Above 400s. I just checked him with my alpha trak 2 after doing a series of control test just to be sure its working fine, which it is. He checked 528. I feed him one can of FF classic 3oz can. Gave him his shot of 1 unit prozinc. He is still hungry. His weight last checked was 14lbs and he is a bit skinnier than normal (my opinion). He has just been on this food for about a few days. I don't know if i should give him another can or not. my other cat takes cans that are good for k/d support. Weruva truluxe steak frites. Which he isn't that fond of, would it be okay to give him another can of either? I'm new so bear with me.

Right now his body is not processing food properly and that is why he is hungry. You will need to give him extra food. If possible, feed him several times a day. Once his glucose levels are under control, his appetite will also become more normal.

so basically just feed him til hes done eating correct? And do small snack portions throughout the days. Please correct me if i am wrong but won't feeding him more increase his bg levels more? They are already really high. i realize he will prolly need an increase dosage but he is still in the adjusting period and we have done a diet change too. Granted he's only been off dry food for maybe a week

Let him eat more if it’s low carb wet food. Add water too. Those really high levels are still causing his organs to starve. That glucose is locked up in the blood and without enough insulin in his system yet, the glucose might as well not be there for his organs to be able to use, so his body is starving. Let him eat. It will settle down as more control is gained.

will do. the updated plan is to feed 2x per day til he is full, prolly 2 3oz FF classic cans each time then use one 6oz Weruva truluxe steak frites can, which ill have to double check carb level tonight, portioned out between his morning and night dose as a snack.

he ate about 4-5 oz. of more food about a half hour after his dosage. I checked his bg an hour after that and it was 477. I won't be able to take a later evening due to the situation i am in. But appreiate the quick help. I'm fairly certain the vet will up his dosage at next weeks visit
