Hello everyone, my name is Mara. Ace, my grand cat, was just diagnosed with diabetes less than a week ago. The vet prescribed 2 Units of vetsulin twice a day. They are subcutaneous shots which I have no problem administering and he's accepting them like a champ.
A brief word about why Ace is my grand cat. I bought him from a rescue shelter as a gift for my grand daughter. He's a very handsome domestic shorthair with a perfect "M" on his forehead. My grand daughter and her mother (my daughter) lived with us at the time. So since she is technically my grand daughter's cat, that makes him my grand cat.
Well in 2014 my daughter passed away and my grand daughter went to live with her paternal grand mother, who is allergic to cats. Consequently, Ace has stayed with me. I truly lucked out because he is a very affectionate 7 year old now, and he gets along well with my 13 year old longhair (all black with gorgeous long mane). Her name is Casino.
So that's my family now. Oh, I almost forgot, I also have a husband, Don. lol We are both disabled and retired. I'm looking forward to getting to know people here and finding answers about Ace's diabetes. I've had no experience with diabetes, either cat's or human's so this is all new territory to me.
That's it! I'm going to head over to another forum to ask some health questions. Ciao for now!
