I've read so much over the last 10 days trying to learn everything I can to take care of our Big Boy. Now I find myself on information overload and can't find the links to the videos showing testing being done. I got a ReliOn Confirm meter, strips, lancets, ketone(sp?) test strips yesterday - now it's time I go back and view them while holding this all in front of me. I've been messin' with KT's ears, rubbing, etc the last few days so he'd be used to me holding them firmly when we reached this stage. If I have a chance this evening after viewing, I may try a reading but if not, we'll start tomorrow. nailbite_smile

Hi there. This is one question I can answer. Scroll to the very top of the page where it says "Board Index" click on that. Click on the "Health Links" board. Scroll down, third from bottom is "Hometesting links" (something like that, it's third from bottom) Click on that, and there are a bunch of links to different things for home testing. I know it feels overwhelming right now, but watch the videos it will help. You could even do a couple of "dry runs" with your cat, and run through all the steps except actually pricking the ear. You can even practice on yourself if you want to see how the lancet works without getting kitty involved. Getting kitty used getting ears rubbed is a great start.

Hi, I know it is nerve racking, I was so nervious when I first started (got frustrated too). I can't tell you how many times I watched the video before I felt I was ready to try it myself...

Still being a newbie myself, I can tell you the more you do this, the more relaxed and comfortable the both of you will be. Praise, treats, neosporin + pain on ears, more praise and treats...etc. I also get Casey accustom to getting her ears touched by playing with and messaging them even when I am not testing her. Casey had still been some what of a pill to test, so I bought some "no stress" or calming spray, that seems to have helped some with the last 2 testings.

So just remember to try to stay calm yourself (cats pick up on your mood), and to give lots of praise and treats whether the prick and/or test is success full or not. I think you big thing for me was to get Casey used to the pattern/routine, I think she is finally getting thee idea....I guess that would go for me too.

I would wish you good luck...but I believe you will do fine,
