what to do? What is the time interval during which it is OK to give the shot?

I know with my meds, it says if you forgot a pill and the next one due is 4 hours away, don't take it.
I guess I'm looking for that "4 hour" type rule with the Lantus. Thanks.

I just want to be prepared if I _DO_ forget one or get home late, for instance.

Hello

welcome to the Lantus forum.

Is your kitty named Joey?
I found your first thread in health

I'm linking it here because it helps to know a bit more about your kitty, your situation, your schedule etc...

Thanks. Yes, we are RuthV and Joey - I'd change my profile if I could figure out how. Ha.

I read the enclosure which came with the Lantus (risking blindness all the while) and nothing was said about missing a shot. Course, written for ppl. And I guess they would know to test before a late shot.
I'll read your reference.

Actually I'd like to suggest that you have a look at our Lantus forum stickies up above - the stickies have a "star" next to them.
You'll want to familiarize yourself with the dosing protocol we use here in this forum.

The problem with missing shots is that the shed empties out and you have to work at it again to refill it - please read the shed stickie.
As for late shots, I believe you have about a 2 hour time frame to shoot after your regular shot time.
Others can help clarify that if I'm mistaken.

And you would have to get back on schedule for the next shot.
Lantus works best on a 12/12 schedule and requires a lot of patience and most of all data. Do you home test?
Are you on a 12/12 shooting schedule?

It would also be suggested that you start a spreadsheet for your cat. This way, others will be able to take a look at what's going on, and give you advice, etc. It would definitely help you so that you can see what's happening with your cat. :)

As far as I know, there's not a "rule" about what to do. A lot depends on what the contingencies are. If you have an unforgiving schedule, it may meant that you have to skip what would be a late shot since your schedule would not be able to accommodate a shot that needs to be 12 hours later.
