what does it mean. They were so glassy they looked wet.

I can't get a test..I failed two more times today so I am taking to the vets tomorrow for a few pokes so I know where he is as I am exchanging food to low carb and canned.

it could mean his blood sugar is too low. is he doing anything else abnormal? crying? stumbling? shaking? etc....

if so, treat as if it's a hypo and give some high carb food.

ideally if you can get a test that would be the only way to know for sure so maybe keep trying that if you can. i'm not familiar with your cat and don't know if he's too feisty for testing, etc....

Grayson's eyes get glassy when he has ketones. Are you testing for them? Little test strips in a bottle at WalMart for $6 or $10 at Walgreens - hold them in a stream or dip them in a pool of urine and they change color to the color coding on the bottle. Anything more than a trace could be a sign of heading toward DKA. Is he eating okay? Has he had any kind of an infection? These all can contribute to ketones and DKA.

Get the strips ASAP. Test him ANY TIME YOU CAN! I do it at least once a day, but as often as I can catch him. Put the strips near the litter box and stalk him until he goes in. Sometimes that only takes scooping the litter - he sees it as an invitation!

DKA can be critical or deadly. DO NOT take them lightly. TEST OFTEN. I was able to head off DKA because I caught them early. As a result, we increased significantly his insulin, and I give 100 mL of sub-cutaneous fluids daily.

Good luck and keep us tuned in.

I'm dropping him at the vets tomorrow for a few hours so the vet can get readings I can't. The vet and others see glassy eyes as low BG and you see it as high. However, since I saw his eyes do that at his morning nadir I have to believe it means low. However again, the litter box is very heavy with urine. However again again, I have been switching all the guys to canned and thus more water to pass. So, who the hell knows?!

Hmmm..well tomorrow I should know.

I am staying up with him (it's nearly 2:30 a.m.) until his nadir passes safely in about a n hour.
