We are not making any progress with an increased dose of 2u. This morning will be going into the 5th cycle. Last night at +4 he had a nice drop to 207 from 389 and from there he only rose to 236 @ =8 so, he could have had a nice drop in those four hours thus the big bounce this morning. Wondering if this is too much insulin for him. Now in retrospect it seems like he did better on 1.8. Maybe I am moving him around too quickly. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I don't know, Bobbie. This is a tough one. You've done a great job of testing and increasing slowly. He did have SLIGHTLY better numbers at 1.8 but they really need to come down more. It's really up to you...you could try reducing or increasing. Let me think some about what I would do and I'll get with you later (as long as we don't end up at the vet since it IS the weekend...). Maybe Robin will have some ideas too. :)

Bobbi, I though we reduced a couple weeks ago and the numbers were worse. I could continue up. Sometimes, if they have been sitting in the 300 range for weeks, their body gets used to being there and they have to get a push to break out. Once you reach that break through dose, they drop. That would be what I expect for Bubba. I would keep moving up every three cycles, monitoring carefully until he starts to consistently drop.

You could always try a different insulin but I don't think about that until they get to about 4 units. You could certainly explore Lantus, but my guess is that we haven't hit the right dose of ProZinc yet. You have raised slowly and carefully - I don't see reducing helping. Just my two cents.

Thanks, Sue and Rachel. I am second guessing myself. I will try the continue upward and see what happens.

Hi, Bobbie, from late-to-the-party gal! I agree with Sue ... and am wondering if you should maybe try going for an increase of a half-unit, to 2.5, am thinking that perhaps this might wake up his pancreas a little more than the 0.2 adjustments have. BUT only if you can monitor, of course. @Sue and Oliver (GA) , @Rachel - your thoughts on amt. of increase?

I like that, Robin. Sounds like Bobbie has the opportunity to monitor carefully so this might be the time. Sorry about the job, Bobbie - hope your son is able to get back on his feet. You know what to do if you'd get a 50, you are around - go for it!

I think Robin may be right IF you can monitor carefully. You do a great job of monitoring! Just make sure it's a cycle where you feel comfortable being there and monitoring. If you feel better about doing it during a daytime cycle, I think that would be fine. (I preferred morning increases since I knew I could stay awake and watch her!). It's up to you...if you feel comfortable raising to 2.5 and can monitor, I do think it would be fine.

@Rachel - Re: your preference for morning increases - Ha! Remember those days/nights - during some of the wonky spots - when you ended up feeling like you could have played one of the zombie parts in Night of the Living Dead?

Okay ladies, this sound like a plan. Tonight I will keep at 2 and tomorrow pop up to 2.5.

Thanks Sue, still trying to get used to the idea that I am unemployed for the first time in my life. Everything happens for a reason and now I have more time to get Bubba's numbers where they should be. Plus, my 88 year old mom is going to start requiring more attention.

Sounds like the universe has some new plans for you ... I know how this sort of thing feels, Bobbie. So am wishing you the best as you tackle the new challenges in your life. (I know you're a gal with a LOT of heart!)
Here's a whole lot of these for you from Bat-Bat & me :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thanks Robin. I am enjoying the thought of kicking back a bit and enjoying September which is always a beautiful month here on the East Coast. Tomatoes are still coming in by the hoards!
