Ideas for slowing steep drops

So... It seems that Cooter believes there is a Olympic insulin diving team. He tends to drop 200+ points by +2 just about every cycle (cant verify his AM's, but plan on it this weekend). When we first started the Prozinc last week I was still doing test/feed wait a half hour and shoot like the vetsulin. This week I've been test/feed/shoot at the same time, it doesnt appear to make a difference. Any ideas on softening his drops? Also, if anyone has any input on when to worry when they are diving fast I'd appreciate it. I turned chicken at his +3 and gave him a little LC so I cant say if he would have leveled out by himself or if I slowed him down.

Thanks!

Sarah, this is for you. :bighug::bighug: I am not at all familiar with ProZinc so I can't even guess at what you need to do next. I do know that when my Radar was newly on insulin he had black and red readings every day. We were both miserable and I didn't know what to do to help him. I hadn't yet found FDMB so I was just lost and scared. Know that you aren't alone. I'm sure someone will be along soon with some suggestion that will be useful. In the meantime hug your kitty and enjoy his love. :cat:

Take a look at the Think Tank post on Vetsulin/Caninsulin as done in the Netherlands. They have some specific patterns of feeding they use with that which may give you ideas.
Another option is to put a bit more carbohydrate in the first meal to offset the drop. That could be done with a drop or two of Karo, for example, or you might make a gravy for the canned food you are using (Combine flour and broth to create a roux, then stir in more broth a little at a time over heat to thicken. Portion out and refrigerate or freeze until needed) and add a teaspoon of that to the morning feed.

If you check the food list you will find some medium carb foods-I have found that if I give a MC (13-18%) at +1 or +2 it helps level the cycle out. I personally do not like to bump up the carbs at shot time because sometimes he surprises me and holds pretty nice and steady... and in the end I want him used to the lower numbers so bumping it up without knowing he will dive was not helpful in our goal of remission. ECID so you kind of have to experiment... it takes patience and chocolate!:bighug:
I have found that having lots of data helps determine when to give a medium or high carb... good luck!:cat:
(for us LC does nothing to raise BG when dropping he just eats too much:oops:)
