IBD and anti inflammatory

I know steroids are the common go to med for treating IBD in cats, but since Bobo became diabetic while in budesonide, I want to find alternative ways to manage his IBD. He’s currently on Cerenia and ondansetron daily and I’m syringe feeding when he has a flare up. I guess it’s common to treat IBD in humans with anti-inflammatories, but not in cats. Not many anti-inflammatories that are safe for cats and so I was wondering if anyone has ever tried any and which one?
 
You can still use steroids and just adjust insulin as needed. I do not know if any NSAIDs for long term use in cats.
I started budesonide in some of my cats that were already diabetic.
 
I have 2 (presumed, not biopsy confirmed) IBD kitties. One does well on steroids, the other has been on low dose (2kg dosing for a 5kg cat) meloxicam for several years now to manage it. It's allowed for long term use in my country. His bloodwork is great, even the SDMA test shows no sign of kidney damage. If we stop, he flares up again within 3 days. He has zero symptoms when medicated.

Same with Minnie. She was already diabetic so the budesonide just meant she needed a bit more insulin. With Bobo, the budesonide made him diabetic and although he’s super easy to test, he hates the injection. It was a struggle every time and I fear that when I have to travel for work or even go on vacay, no pet sitter would be able to give him his shots. I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place with him because of it…

I discussed with my vet the same question that you have since I use prednisolone for IBD and it is known that can cause diabetes in cats. If you have IDB under control, it is better (and probably easier) to control diabetes with more insulin that changes on meds for IBD.

@Sienne and Gabby (GA) i joined the group and posted but got no answers. Bobo had his checkup yesterday and I discussed it with his IM, but he’s against it. He said it’s great for arthritis, but won’t work on the GI tract. He’s having me try anti acids but I’m not sure it will help…

Thanks! Sadly not easier with Bobo since he won’t let anyone inject him but me and it’s a struggle. I’m going to start having to travel for work and it would be impossible to find a pet sitter that would be able to manage that
