In all my years of doing this....

I just gave skittles 2 Units of PZI with OUT testing! When I realized what I did ( maybe a a minute later ) tested and he was only 120! I never shoot under 150 and when I do, it's just a little bit, never ever a full does. And I RARELY shoot under 170.

Got my high gravy food out and my karo syrup sitting on the counter. I can’t believe I did that! I’ve never screwed up like this.

PZI kicks in 4-6 hrs right? My mind is a blank. Should I just go ahead and feed him the high carb food now? Or set my alarm ( if I can sleep ) test in 5 hrs ?

PS
Just saw that none of his updated #’s saved on his SS. I write then down and put on SS because my Internet /wifi goes out all the time. (I live on an Island )

I would test at an hour, or even at 30 minutes. I've had Jack's BG drop considerably in two hours. His lowest point could come later in the cycle, although if you're feeding him high carbs, it may not keep going down. It may be a good idea to put a 911 before your subject so it will catch more eyes. And just try and relax, and just breathe...
You're prepared and you'll have support here.

My vet told me to leave as much food as the cat could eat overnight if I had this situation, but you might try the insulin forum for better advice, since I use Lantus. In fact, the vet said specifically to leave dry food, maybe for the carbs.

I don't have any dry food on hand, I do have high carb gravy. Should I just go ahead and give it to him now or wait to see what his number is when he peaks? Prozinc is usually 4-6 hrs after dose.
This was his PM dose

How do I cross post?

Hi Sherri-

Deep breaths. Odds are this will be fine. Don't start giving carbs yet. And I wouldn't give extra food either. Just give Skittles whatever he would normally eat at this point.

Just tested
At 9:30 PM EST- 120
11:20 (+2) - 114. He is eating his regular food now
I don't have a lot of experience, but I think that looks pretty good. He really didn't take much of a drop, and that's a good sign. I think it's also good that he's eating some regular food. That will help.

Looking at your spreadsheet,I don't see any mid-cycle data on 2u, so we don't know if this is normally a good dose or not. Which means tonight is going to be an experiment, and a good opportunity to collect some data and see what's going on. It looks like Skittles held steady through +2, but you are going to need to stay up for awhile and keep testing.

I would suggest testing again at +3, and then we'll see from there what needs to happen.. How long until your usual bedtime?

Usually go to bed now ( 12:00 AM)

Didn’t know till tonight that all the info I put in his SS didn’t save , our WiFi sucks living on a island. But I have them written down too

Only have 15 carb count food can food

He free feed at night

Lately he has been running low and has been getting 1.5 U if 150-170

And 170+ 2 U

But looks at my notes , he has been going 14-16 hrs a lot without needing anything.

Doesn’t PZI usually peak around 5 hrs?

This really sucks, he has FLUTD so I’ve had to hold off on his curves because the last time I did one , he had a flare up the next day. For some reason, he acts like it hurts to test him now. Any stress and he will flare up and his vet is closed on Thursday

Free feeding is fine. Let him eat as he normally does for now.

I’m going to bed now since I need to get up early tomorrow. Can you go ahead and get the +3 now so we can see where he’s headed before I log off?

Quick update

9:30 PM 120 ( gave 2 U by mistake )
+2- 114
+7- 102

I kept a close eye on him, watching him walk, eating and breathing. That's why I didn't test him a lot. With him having FLUTD, I couldn't stress him out. If he showed signs of hypo or acted different in anyway, I would've tested immediately.
It's now 5:37 AM, been up all night watching him.

Wow! He did great, and so did you. (But it stinks that you were up all night.) I think I may have panicked more than you did. Sorry about that. (I deleted where I told you not to panic.) You clearly made the right choice by not testing him too much. You know your kitty, and you spared him added stress that would have just aggravated his FLUTD (which, by the way, I had to look up).
Skittles is a handsome lad, for sure.

Thank you very much for your kind words :)
FLUTD is a very painful, scary and deadly disease. It’s so hard & sad to see my baby in so much pain, laying on the floor with drop steadily running out of his penis, but seeing the blood coming out is also a good sign because it means he is not blocked. A blockage is an emergency vet visit and could kill it not caught in time.
I ended up staying up, tried to get some sleep around 9:00 AM but kept waking up. Today was the last day of the nice cool front coming through, but I didn’t even leave the house.
((((( Big Hugs))))))

So just wondering....
Why did he do so good and not drop and go hypo?

I gave him 2 U with his BG at 120. Probably having only 1/4 or less of his insulin left helped him versus beginning a brand new bottle.

That's so sad. He looks like such a sweetheart.
