I think that Cyrus is at the end of his road....

Hi,

I am sobbing as I write this. First off, Cyrus bg numbers have been sitting at 100 with 2 u 2x a day. Last night I went to clean the litter box and I noticed that there was "urine" everywhere.......I mean a huge puddle. It was mostly clear, but had a faint scent of cat urine. I just thought that cyrus must have drank a lot that day and maybe missed the box a little. Today at lunch I go to clean the box-again, HUGE flooding all around, underneath, everywhere. I look for Cyrus and all he wants is water out of the sink. I am thinking kidney failure. I called the vet and they seem to think that same thing. Cyrus is eating normally/playing. I have to still give him his steroids due to his stomatitis. The vet said to bring him in at 4:30 today. I know that something has to be wrong. I feel like I failed at Cyrus' life. I cannot help but think that I might have to put Cyrus down today. I have read that kidney failure only gets worse-I cannot stop balling like a baby. for some reason, the vet said "oh-you must have done research because sounds like kidney failure to me".

I do not even know how I am going to drive my baby boy to the vet.......I am heart broken!!

Heather, have the vet do a full blood panel on him, and see what's wrong. It'll tell you what's going on with Cyrus. I have my fingers crossed for a positive outcome, and am saying a lot of prayers for the both of you.

Heather, I agree with Angela, have the vet do a work-up and get the results from that before making such a huge decision. If Cyrus is acting like a normal cat outside of the litterbox issues I would give him time to see if things improve.

Also, are you sure about the glucose numbers being so low? I know when Layla's are higher than normal, she will sometimes flood the box.

Hugs to you and Cyrus, and hoping for a good outcome.

Best,
Pam & Layla

I don't know a lot about kidney problems, but I think a lot of cats do ok with it for quite some time, with sometimes a diet change (?) and sometimes by getting fluids at home.

If he is acting normal like you said, it might not be as bad as you fear. Even if it is something that might get worse, it sounds like he still has quality of life and hopefully you won't be faced with a decision like that yet.

Hope things go ok today!!!

Thank you to everyone who replied. I am sitting here with Cyrus (he is giving me sweet kisses) as we wait for his appointment. It is hard to think that there could be a serious problem when he is still so happy to see me and plays with his brother Sox. I have never cried so hard in my life.....also, I am sure about his bg numbers since I home test. My husband is a diabetic, so I would know for sure if the machine was wrong.

Has anyone else had "clear" looking urine come out of their cat?? Could it be his system "flushing" things out?

Thanks!
Heather

It could be that he may have been drinking a lot of water. I don't know. That would one indication of the clear or clearer urine.

I await the results from the vet. I hope that he will give you a prompt diagnosis while you're there. *HUGS*
