I think kibble must have cat heroin in it.

Baby Cat is seriously carb addicted.
He sits and waits while the dog gets his food, hoping he knocks a piece out of the bowl.
One would think the empty bowl would be safe, but no, he tries to lick it out.
So I stand and wait while the dog eats, so I can quickly whisk the bowl away.
He's even started to put his nose in when I'm giving the dog his lactulose. It is, after all, a sugar solution.

Yesterday, I bagged up the remaining kibble we have to take to my boss. I set it by the back door, well out of reach.
BC climbed up there in the night, took the bag, dragged it into my son's bedroom, chewed through the plastic, and ate kibble.
I found out by the amounts of cat barf he left behind as evidence.
I know it was him because his blood sugar was almost 600 this morning, and he's returned to the spot he left the bag several times today to get more, only it's not there. It is in my car now.

So, I've decided there must be cat heroin in kibble. I knew he was carb addicted, but really didn't think he would go so far as to steal just to get himself a fix. But steal, he did.
Fortunately, I'm working from home today and can stick him often to see how his blood sugar goes down.

Yup, I have a kibble addict too. Dog food isn't safe around here. Between the dog wanting to eat the cat's food and vice-versa it's a circus. I have fleetingly thought about just switching them up (just kidding, of course.)
Hope Baby Cat comes down well!

I have to keep everything in cupboards or in the oven. I left some hamburger buns on the counter to thaw and an hour later, the package was on the floor with 4 cats digging in. Of course, Callie's numbers were up. With 4cats and 2 dogs, someone is always hungry. I have to put them in separate rooms to eat.

Yes! The dog has a special diet as well, so he is on a high carb, low protein food. BC is on a low carb, high protein food. They pine for each other's meals. It's so silly.

Baby Cat gets so close to Dogbeardwhen I'm giving him the lactulose that DB actually licks BC's face while he takes the medicine from the dropper.

The lactulose may taste sweet and sound like it's full of sugar, but it's actually safe to use in most diabetics....it contains a synthetic sugar that doesn't break down until it reaches the colon. Since it's not absorbed in the intestines, it should have little effect on BG....of course that comes with the caveat that ECID!

Now if it's the syrup, that could be different since most syrups are flavored

Thanks for the title and giggle it gave me from a totally kibble addicted sugar kitty's Mom. I think you have captured my impression of kibble to a "T'. I have been trying to transition my sugar over to canned food since she was 10 weeks old....long before her diabetic diagnosis. I know I am not a total failure since my efforts DID transition my 16 yr. old civie but my sugar well...she's proved herself to be one very hard nut to "crack". :woot:

Diggy loves to eat dog food also! And of course the dog is a pushover so there have been times that Diggy has bullied his way and ate while the dog just stood there and watched. Now I have to be very careful when feeding, and definitely make sure any uneaten food is hidden in a cabinet! (Although one morning I saw him trying to open the cabinet door). There's just no end to it!

All four of mine are *former* (ha-ha) kibble addicts and will also steal any treats, cat food, or human food they can get their little paws on. I spend a fortune replacing stolen treats - they even ferret them out of tightly closed drawers! Kitty crack, indeed!

Oh Lucy! Too funny! It used to be that my civie pushed my sugar out of her bowl of food. Now it's reversed so I am playing lunchroom monitor at every meal and snack!
