Well Hidey has not had any insulin since March 17th, but his numbers were still a bit high for me to feel comfortable saying he was OTJ. He had his dental, and since that along with mini meals every few hours his numbers have been really good. His auto feeder came in yesterday so we started using that last night. His highest numbers have been first thing in the morning since he would go several hours without eating, so this will correct it. I can tell the difference when he eats mid-night because if I wake up at say 1 or 2 a.m. his numbers would be below 100.

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE on this crazy journey.

I'm still testing at least twice a day daily, but after about a week with the auto feeder if his numbers stay below 100 Ill start cutting him back.

That's inspiring! My Hannah is coming up on her 1 month mark of being diagnosed, and I can already see huge improvements, but she still has high pre-shot numbers (mostly 300s) and lows that are not quite low enough. It's so great to see OTJ posts for cats who were diagnosed not all that long ago. :-D

Congratulations Samantha and Hidey!

Hidey's SS is looking gorgeous the last several weeks! Looks like the dental was the final push Hidey needed. I think you're spot on with a small overnight feeding to help stimulate Hidey's pancreas into action overnight and hopefully bring his AM numbers down just a hair. Have you read about the Dawn Phenomenon? In human diabetics, BG is often higher in the morning, and it seems some of our kitties are as well.

Thank you Jennifer. Hidey was only diagnosed the beginning of January and was on vetsulin the first month but it didnt help him. When he was first diagnosed he was in the 500 and 600 :o Vetsulin only brought him down for a short bit, but once I switched him to Prozinc and switched his diet, not to mention his two teeth that were extracted he's doing great. I have to keep him on a LOW carb diet though. He does better with 0%-4% carbs. Just keep your fingers crossed, closely monitor and Hannah will lower. What a journey though.

Never heard of the dawn phenomenon, I'll have to read up on that but it makes me feel a little better because his morning numbers are always the highest. I just assumed it was the food, but also lack of movement during the night. My cats do pretty good with sleeping most of the night, until they start a circus in the middle of the night. Luckily thats once in a blue moon lol

I'm planning to try 1.25u of Vetsulin, or just a hair more (1.5u was too much) for a few weeks, and if her swings are still too severe, I plan to try to switch to ProZinc as well. I've really only stayed with Vetsulin this long because my mom (who lives with me) also has a diabetic cat on Vetsulin so she lets me share her bottle since Hannah's doses are so small compared to the 6u 2x/day that she gives her cat. Sounds like most cats just do better and are more likely to go into remission on ProZinc, which is the goal. (Goal #2: converting mom to a low carb wet food / ProZinc user) ;-)

Congrats again on Hidey!

Dimitri is the same way as Hidey, if he doesn't eat some during the night, his morning number will be a bit high. Congratulations on OTJ Hidey and Hooman! :RAHCAT

Congratulations to Hidey on getting to OTJ (diet controlled ) status! Good job and kudos for taking such good care of him. We hope he has a long honeymoon at the Falls.

Thank you everyone, we truly could not have done it without all of your help. I keep wanting to cut back on the testing, I'm just so nervous not to. I worry I'll cut back and end up missing something. I'm taking the cutting back on testing slow although he's not happy about it because it means less treats lol

You are suffering from TWS (Testing Withdrawal Symdrome)!

I managed to cut back to once a week with my Wink until fairly recently. I caught a high BG for him, over 120 and ended up testing every day for a while and sometimes around +3-4 after food to make sure the BG's were lower and his little pancreas was doing it's job properly.

So far, I've only been able to wean myself back to every other day. ohmygod_smile
