I think I made a mistake. Update on Oscar

I think I made a mistake. Oscar has been on 1u up until two days ago, where upon seeing a HI reading on his meter (600+) I got incredibly nervous and titrated up to 1.25. Now I'm worried I really screwed up, looking back I didn't have very much mid cycle data and shouldn't have jumped to upping his dose so quickly, I just got really nervous. I had the day off yesterday and got some more mid cycle data, his number's stayed pretty high, and haven't gone down much today (I was at work so mid cycle data from today is missing). I plan on doing mid cycle tests tonight, I just gave him his PM dose a half hour ago.

Any ideas as to what might be going on? Any advice on how to move on from here? I'm getting worried with these high numbers. I just got some ketone strips today and already got a sample and things are well there, no trace.

Also after testing him multiple times yesterday, his right ear (it seems to bleed a lot easier) is pretty hot to the touch. I'm concerned I'm hurting him. I've been applying Neosporin, the reddening is easing up a bit.

I've just been a worried wreck and any advice would be much appreciated.

Edit: I'm actually not really sure what to make of this test, the color doesn't look like any on the bottle...here's a link to a picture (hope this is allowed, tell me if not and I'll remove): http://imgur.com/a/EDaDNp5

I think you will be ok at 1.25 U. I noticed that he also has IBD. Is he having any symptoms? If so, pain from it can also contribute to the higher numbers.

I don't have any experience with IBD. You may want to change your title to include it so the members that do have experience will see your post and be able to help you.

I was already leaning towards the idea that he would probably need a dose increase, but knew it would be irresponsible to do until I had some real data. I'm hoping to keep him on 1.25 for at least a week and hopefully I'll start seeing some kind of a decrease in these numbers. His IBD symptoms have been pretty non existent lately. I was really worried that with the diet changes I've been making that it would start to become a problem, but he's actually been doing really well in regards to that. So I'm hoping it's not from pain (usually he tells me when he's in pain, he'll constantly want me to rub his belly and he'll start howling a bit and I haven't seen any of that from him). I am wondering though if his ears from the testing are causing pain...I know I know its just par the course, but they're all red and his right ear is really warm. I think because of this, he hasn't been looking forwards to his tests like he normally does, and might be getting nervous right before hand. So I have considered that maybe the numbers a elevated just a tish because of that.

Thank you!

Sorry to bother you again, but do you have any experience with ketone test strips? I got a test, and the color isn't really matching any of the corresponding colors on the bottle. I posted a link to a picture, I could use a second set of eyes to put my mind at ease that it's a negative. Thank you!

Hey Chloe, where is the picture? Negative is peach colour, anything with a red tinge is showing ketones present.

Thank you! Having a second set of eyes to look at it makes me feel a lot better. His numbers have been so high, ketones have been a constant worry.

I share your worry, I test Toby literally every day! but he is very prone, has Oscar had ketones before?

No he hasn't had ketones, but during his last blood test the vet told me that he had some "electrolyte imbalances that he felt would even out once I had him being treated". So that makes me nervous, especially since he's still not regulated.

Ok, well you are doing everything you can, just keep testing his BG and for ketones, if you want dosing advice and someone to look at your spreadsheet, post in the Prozinc Forum :-)
