Vlad has been all over the place. Quick recap. He was diagnosed in 2018, went in remission in 2019, and after months of doing well, and one move, he started losing lots of weight (he's down to 5.6 lb, skin and bones), BG is out of control again, and he has no appetite. Had to take him to the vet a couple times, wouldn't eat or drink and got severely dehydrated. He's on vetsulin atm, and I haven't been able to get it nearly under control. I noticed a few days ago, while taking an hourly bg all day, that when I tried brushing his teeth, his mouth bled and his BG shot up for a few hours after, and wouldn't eat. Mentioned it to the vet, didn't say anything about it.
His vets just keep saying its because he's old and that is what happens (ugh). I thought there had to be a reason. He doesn't like me messing with his mouth, but he's weak enough atm that I managed to pry his mouth open and shine a light in there. Back tooth looked very wonky, I just touched it with my finger and it started bleeding A LOT. It must be infected. Can't take him in for another hour, called ahead and told them I'm coming. I hope this is it. Although, if he needs an extraction, I'm sure the procedure has risks with his wild BG and being so weak and thin. But the risk of not doing it asap seems greater. Just needed somewhere to pour my brains out into, it has been a stressful month. I hope this is it, and resolving it will get him on the road to recovery. Plan on switching him to basaglar when it gets here monday. But we'll see how this works out.
