I went to the vet today and spoke with the diabetic specialist. I told her about this message board and about Fancy Feast classics being lower in carbs than the Royal Canin Jake had been eating. I showed her my personal chart I'm keeping on my iPad, and that Jake has been able to go from 6u 2x to 2u 2x by taking him off dry. She was very impressed, and is going to check out what the board has to say, and show my vet the message board. Woo hoo! They are such good people there!

Congratulations! I wish I had your persistence. I thought about trying to talk my old vet at the Humane Society around, but between their somewhat inconvenient hours/location and how overworked they are, I decided Huey would be better off if I just found him a new vet. I'm still debating shooting the Humane Society a message, I think the new vet is going to work out well but I feel sorry for the other diabetic cats that are going to make their way to the HS clinic.

Actions speak louder than words! My vet at first was highly skeptical of what I had been reading "on the internet," but then he started to come around when he realized it was coming from vet journals and was peer-reviewed. And with Mikey's numbers and low dosage level, there's no arguments coming from him! In fact, he now prints off vet articles on diabetes for me to read! It's so great to find a vet willing to work with you and willing to listen and even learn!
