That we have a fun thread every now and then. Since it's Labor Day, what was your first job?

For me, I have a checkered past. I sold gloves at a department store when I was 16 (see, I am REALLY old). The next summer I worked at an amusement park (Santa's Workshop) as Heidi. My job was to care for 15 goats and a sheep that tourists could feed bottles of milk to and could pet. I dressed every day in white pantaloons and a dirndl.

That's my contribution. Hope you all will respond and then, someday soon, add your own fun thread.

Fun idea, Sue!

As a teen, I never worked an official job, though I did my share of babysitting, cleaning, and also gave piano lessons as well as paid piano concerts/performances. Such the virtuoso.

My first hourly job was as an office aide on campus in the "lifelong learning" department. We ran the community programs and also coordinated classes for non-traditional students, aka adults returning or taking just a few classes.

Yours were much more interesting!

What a great idea, Sue! We'll have to all get thinking on what we can have for a fun thread!

I did babysitting as a child, as well as pet sitting. I remember the first time I pet sat for some cats and came in to find they had knocked an entire Christmas tree over! I had to get my dad and my brother to come put it back up.

My senior year of high school, I worked at KMart in the shoe department (yeah, that was a long time ago). I guess that's the first "real" job I had.

I think you're going to win in the interesting job category, Sue! :D

My very first paid job was babysitting for neighbor children. However, my very first paid job with taxes removed was scooping ice cream at a Flea Market in Lahaska, PA. To date, that is my very "flavorite" job.

Ha, ha! I would have gained so much weight. The rest of my life has been ordinary (teaching for 30+ years) but my early job history was fun. After being Heidi, I got a summer job in the tailor shop at the Air Force Academy, giving The hundred new cadets their first uniforms. You'd think I would have taken advantage of meeting so many 18 year old guys, but didn't find a keeper.

You would think I would have gained a lot of weight since I overdosed on one flavor a day. Those were the days when I weighed all of 93 lbs. soaking wet. If I just think about ice cream now, I gain weight! Even though you didn't find a keeper at the academy, I bet you had fun looking! Something about a man in a uniform!

My first job was working at a ice cream dairy bar, when I was in high school, just like Bobbie. They made homemade ice-cream. We had soft ice cream and hard ice-cream. And we could eat our mistakes <g>. My favorite ice cream sunday was a CMP (chocolate, marshmallow, peanut) sunday. Those were the days I could eat anything and not gain weight. I also picked strawberries for 10 cents a box when the strawberries were in season.

I worked 5 summers at the now defunct Geauga Lake Amusement Park in Aurora, OH. The first 2 years were in fast foods, the following 3 in rides.

Ha ! I knew I liked you. a former ice cream scooper! The only other best job as I see it would be selling jewelry. How fun would that be? People are happy when they are buying ice cream and jewelry. Or so I think...

I am late to the fun, but thought I would join late! My first non-taxed job was helping my dad in the family orange grove and babysitting in the neighborhood. The grove was fun, but hot and had to watch out for snakes. My first official job was at a home security patrol service, I filed and answered the calls. I believe my wage was $1.60 an hour, which shows how old I am! I would rather have worked as a ice cream scooper.....yummy!
