So purina is not going to make the special diet pates anymore. Has anyone a recommendation for what to buy now?
There are some other options here is a good place within the forum to look.http://www.felinediabetes.com/diet.htm there is also a good supplement you might want to look at. If you are interested, I can pm you the link.So purina is not going to make the special diet pates anymore. Has anyone a recommendation for what to buy now?

Be careful with gravy or sauces, they tend to be higher in carbs. Have you considered the Fancy Feast Classics? Then you can add the supplement for the uti issues.http://www.amazon.com/Lives-Daily-Essentials-flaked-Sauce/dp/B000WTEJC4?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20
Out of the stuff on the list this seems like the only one that is cheap. Sigh.
The 3oz cans are so much more expensive is the only reason I haven't.Be careful with gravy or sauces, they tend to be higher in carbs. Have you considered the Fancy Feast Classics? Then you can add the supplement for the uti issues.
Premium pet stores (not chains like PetSmart) or Petco) are likely to have EVO. If not they can usually order it. Young Again is harder to get. You can order it from their site

For mail-order Evo

Wet food is the better choice because of its moisture content.I thought dry food was recommended against. Is this not the case?
Any thoughts on Authority® Pate Adult Cat Food at Pet smart. It's on the List of food on 8% carbs but it has Brewer's Rice in the ingredients...is this safe guys?
The dose makes the poison. If the percent of calories from carbohydrate is under 10%, it may be fine. Some cats will react to specific grains more extremely, so you monitor to check for impact to see if it'll be OK.
A change in food, particularly to one that might be more 'tasty' may encourage binging which could spike the glucose too.
I used that until I found the Friskies Pate which was a lot cheaper, but everything I read on the Authority Pate brand was good news. From what I understand you generally want something under 10% to be ideal.
I read the ingredients Authority® Pate Adult Cat Food but it has Brewer's Rice in the ingredients..So it's ok? i just want nothing to do with Purina any more and will to pay the litle extra, i just want it to be safe for my boy.

Thank you BJM...The question is answered above.
The amount (dose) of rice in there is trivial.
Some cats will react more extremely to rice than others. You won't know until you try it.
Thank you pevsfreedomI would say yes it's good bet to use the Authority pate brand.
