I left the PZI out for 5-6 hours

put it back in the fridge and over the next few days, watch the numbers. if response to the insulin changes from what it's been the last several days, insulin died and you'll have to get new. that's another big beauty to hometesting. you can literally see when a vial goes bad :-)

What was the temp in your house? It might not have had any effect, but like Cindy said, just watch the numbers the next few days.

What a bummer! I left it out like that once, and luckily my husband saw it. After that I always put it someplace very visible, even if I was just putting it down for a moment. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

Yes but it might go bad sooner now. So if somewhere down the road with this bottle you start getting progressively higher numbers and insulin need then add bottle suspicion to your list of other suspicions. This is not a big worry just keep it in mind if you start to get wonky numbers.

Though I have no proof, I suspect light is one of the worst things for it. Florescent light puts out UV light too. So if it was florescent then even more suspicion.

Beer bottles are brown to block UV light which reacts with hops to "skunk" beer. I've wondered why the PZI bottles are not brown.

Oh no! My husband was out of town not too long ago so I was dealing with 2 young kids by myself, and of course all the daily schedules - human and feline - and I left out my first full vile (400 u, I believe) out all night. I had only used the one dose. When I went to give the morning dose and it wasn't in the usual place in the fridge I cried! I was so upset. My little girl was home and came up to hug me and said it would be ok. All I could think was my poor husband...works so hard and I just wasted all that insulin AND $$, plus had to make a rush order to refill it. Anyway, hope that yours still works for you.

I kept mine in an empty pill bottle that had the brown. The box wears out over time.

Also please take the temp of your fridge - it should set it for as close to 40F as possible - a little bit warmer than normal. The best is with a wireless thermometer. But others will do too. It should be kept away from drafts [like in the butter drawer].

I was so happy to get rid of the insulin in my fridge so I could once again have REALLY cold beer.

Our fridge is set at exactly 40 and I didn't even know that was the right temp! We just got a new fridge and that seemed like a good setting. lol

Have a new vial of PZI... the other, obviously, was bad. Poor Bud. I feel horrible for continuing to use it this long.

Amazing the difference in her demeanor after last night's shot.

Thanks, Jya'll. Keeping my fingers crossed.. Was a long night once I saw that 65. Guess I'm due a nap after I get her +4!

BTW... this new vet calls me every day to discuss Bud's dosing. Totally amazing.
