I have a question for you all

Since I have many civies as well as an OTJ guy would it be helpful if either over this weekend or during the next week I run and post curves on both a civie and an OTJ diabetic?

That was why I did as many tests as I did during Sammy's 14 day countdown. I wanted to learn (and share) what her body does naturally if not interfered with by me. I learned her BG goes up towards the top end of the range (115 ish for her) when she has not been fed for over 4 hours or so. Then I feed, and 2 hours later or so I tested. She was down in the 80's after she had processed the food. Very interesting, and useful in terms of evaluating her periodically over time.

I am going away on Saturday for 2 weeks and son Brian will be on cat duty. He has stated he is going to test, just to feel secure that she is ok, since he is not staying at the house with her. With this data I gathered, he will have something to compare to.

it would be so interesting to me to compare her numbers to yours, Mel. Really cool idea, and very nice of you to offer to do it.

This would be very interesting to see! It's one thing to read about "normal" cat metabolism done in the context of a study, it's another to see what it actually looks like in the format we use. This is so thoughtful of you to do!

Then consider it done. As soon as I restock on strips tomorrow I'll grab Maxwell and one of the civies and run curves on both. It'll be interesting for me as well since I have run a curve before on Lady Jane Grey but never have on Maxwell since he went OTJ. And I need to try to get at least a mini curve on Cali so I have a baseline for her.

I'd be interested in seeing this as well! All of the times I've tested Henry, he's always been between 40-60. I haven't tested him in a few weeks, but I should because I suspect he's been getting into the neighbor's dry food (he's all of a sudden started drinking water and eating less food). I wonder if/how dry food affects a non-diabetic's numbers. :?:

Hmmm maybe I should run two civie curves as I have a small bag of dry in the house I got when everyone was sick. So I could run one on canned only and one on dry. I know Patches would be delighted to volunteer for the dry food guinea pig lol

does sound interesting. even the dry/wet part in a civ. do u mind sharing the brand of dry, also? i hope i remember to look for the post.

The dry I have on hand at the moment is Friskies Grillers Tender and Crunchy in poultry flavor. The reason I'd use my civie Patches for the experiment is two fold....he's a piglet and because of that he eats in a crate so no one else would get into the evil dry. As well as he is one of my seniors so his metabolism rate should be closer to our sugarcats.
Than say one of my younger furries like Mariposa.
