both my cats stopped eating EVO on thursday, patches (the diabetic) i had a feeling had a possible start of a cold, molly the civvie had one about 4 months ago and did the no eating for about 3 days until she felt better and then on with life, well patches here has been eating a very very small amt of food since i changed them over on friday but doing some extra drinking that i am thinking is the cause of eating the EVO and them changing SOMETHING in it, i cant tell you how tired i am getting of changing food over because of this, i dont have the money to be spending any more then what i do already, i love my cats but in order to feed them i need to drive to work and with gas prices almost at $4 a gallon soon i just wish these companies would say if some ingredient was added or changed, hence the potatoes ive found in EVO.

anyways he has been doing ALOT of sleeping and noticed him losing weight (assuming from the lack of eating) he has been off insulin for almost 3 yrs this july and has been doing fine, i dont have fat cats so to not see fat on him is normal....

i plan on calling a vet tomm and try and get him in, i am hoping this is something simple because i do not have the funds for this, i am in the process of getting bills paid so i myself can start a family soon

what are the signs of DKA? nailbite_smile

i have no testing strips right now
we havent tested in quite some time because all has been normal with him, its this food thing that does it all the time

and if they test at the vet he WILL be sky high because he FREAKS at the vet, i cant even bring out his carrier without him running up the steps and hiding because he knows where he is going with it, the last visit was just under 3 yrs ago

do i just keep water going in him? so if this is the case we are flushing what we can right now?

i am on over time and work and this is not the best time in the least bit for this to be happening right now ohmygod_smile

Adding water is a good idea. Do you feed any wet? It is easy to add water to and make soupy

. Does he seem dehydrated? (when you pull up his skin, does it go back down?)

If he has DKA, it is not something you can treat at home. I would get ketone strips and test his urine.

he is on wet, just switched from EVO to wellness this friday
he is a little dehydrated...i was able to spoon feed him about 5-6 large tablespoons of food this afternoon and he ate all of it, he did eat some on his own this morning too after he woke me up by his ritual of pawing at the bed...and he may be eating during the day when i am not home so i am not completely sure on that one...

im going to have to make some calls to find a vet for him as the last one we were at at the time of diagnosis i will not go back to
i have spoken to a vet here and there about him over the phone with advise and such so hopefully i can get in tomm

ok so i wanted to see if since he has had no appetite how he will react to his occasional petroleum jelly they get for hairballs, just a few licks for him and her i have to spread on her paws, he jumped from the couch and ran to the bottle and is wanting more....how weird is that?
