I hate bouncing

Just venting to people who understand. .8 of a unit takes Sweet Pea too low and he bounces. If I give him .5 or .6 it leaves him way too high. Grrrrr.

He's getting a much needed dental on Thursday. They want me to feed him half of his breakfast and give him 1/2 of his normal dose. I'm hoping once his mouth is better that his numbers stabilize.

Ugh to the bouncing. Fingers crossed the dental helps. Is he getting extractions? Let us know how he does. Often times that does settle down the bouncing (at least a little) and results in lower overall BG (though as I'm typing this I realize you've done this long enough to know that already :rolleyes:) So I'll stop now and just leave you with this:

Yes, he's having extractions. Tuck, my first diabetic, was very bouncy but this guy's cycles are driving me nuts.:confused: Tuck also came to me in desperate need of dental. He went into remission after a few months. I'm telling Sweet Pea to follow that same path.

Thanks for letting me whine. No matter how long you've been dealing with feline diabetes there are still days when you feel like doing this :banghead:
 
I know the frustrations of bouncing only too well! Have you experimented with fat and skinny doses using the marks on the U100 syringes? That might help you. Teasel is still bouncy but has done better on Lantus and now Levemir. I switched to Lev because he didn't feel great on Lantus.

I haven't done fat and skinny shots. When I do .5, I put the plunger between the .4 and .6 marks on my U100s. I was thinking maybe he needs .7. It's crazy to think that 1 drop could make that much of a difference. My vet, who is supportive of me doing my own thing, thinks I'm crazy to use the U100s. I told her their practice should really be carrying U40's with half unit markings to help people draw up more accurate doses. She had no clue those were even available.

I'm hoping he will stabilize. I don't want to switch to Lantus or Levimir - it feels like learning a foreign language, LOL. And selfishly, the in/out nature of Prozinc fits my schedule better.
 
I Super-Hate explaining bouncing to a tech (as I'm looking around, where are the techs that know me?) whose mouth is partially open and I think she just looked at the clock behind my head. Ever tried using hand signals in traffic "Your lights aren't on/you have a flat tire". Kinda like that. :blackeye: :banghead: :oops:

Is Sweet Pea being anaesthetised for the dental procedure? I ask because our vets always tell me to fast the cat overnight prior to a dental or any other procedure requiring anaesthesia (both diabetic and non-diabetic cats).

Yes, anesthetized. I went through this with Tuck too. They didn't like that his blood sugar was sky high because I'd fasted and didn't give insulin. I had to return with his food and insulin and they worked him in as the last case. Their protocol for diabetic cats is to feed them 1/2 their meal and half their insulin then they put them towards the end of the schedule so the stomach empties. Feels weird to me too.
