I got the 1/2 unit marked syringes...

Ok...so if 1/2 unit is when the plunger is even with the 1/2 unit marker...would a 1/4 be with the plunger in between the 1/2 and the first thick black line on the syringe? or would that be an 1/8. ( I think my husband called the nut house to come and get me and I am considering going willingly!).

Oh! Company at the Lev Nuthouse! Awesome! :thumbup

I'll get out the fine silver and good table cloth- Vic, you wanna grab the tea ( this one might need the "special" brew ;-) ) - Sheila can whip us up some nice seat cushions- Pamela, do you have time to bake us up some muffins? And Michele can put in a nice relaxing CD!

K- all set! Come on!

teehee

um, with my syringes I call it .5u when the top of the stopper is in line with the top of the half mark syringe line.

.75u is the top of the stopper at the bottom of the half mark syringe line.

Thusly, ( don'tcha like that word?! ) 1u would be the top of stopper even with top of 1 unit mark syringe line and so on.

Doesn't really matter to US where you pull plunger to as long as YOU know where you pull it to for each dose and stay consistent.

So, for anything less than .5u, the method I used was to pull to the .5u dose and squeeze off how many ever drops of insulin to count down to where I want to be.

For .4u, I'd pull to .5u and squeeze off one drop.

Note also, that the bottom of the plunger- the part where the plastic meets the rubber- can also be used to help mark your micro dose. As an example, on my ReliOn syringe, to get .1u the BOTTOM of the black rubber plunger is at the TOP of the 4u line.

You can also locate writing on the barrel of the syringe being in line with a place o the plunger and mark a micro dose that way.

okay- now sit down and have your tea! ~O)

Oh, its not THAT bad. I do the same as Melissa - with needle pointiong up, I line up the top of plunger with the top of the line.... cause plungers are "fatter" than lines. Anyway, you can guess a .25u dose pretty easily - but consistency is more important than accuracy. You may call a .25u and I w=might think it's .2u - but the point is in giving the same dose each time. Make sense?

And put the high carb food down now, Ruthe!

Oh man, it was so much easier with a high dose cat! Well, once I knew it was ok to be high dose! My micro dosing didn't work last night/this morning as she was in the high 400s today. So I went back to 1/2 unit tonight. Friday is coming soon right??

Step AWAY from the HC, Ruthe!!!

Another thought if this kitty wants to be so difficult ( haha ) is to choose a sterile surface and shoot out several droplets of insulin ( uniform as possible ), empty syringe and force plunger as far forward as it will go ( empty air) and then suck back up how many ever drops or tenths of a unit that you want to shoot.

Stop laughing! ( or crying!) It might work for you!

Instead of giving HC so kitty can take more insulin, is there anything LOWER carb available to you? How about raw?

Last- if he is so insulin sensitive, maybe he doesn't need it? Maybe take him off, do spot checks and then a full curve after a week and see what you come up with.

Reaching.... ;-)

I thought I posted a reply earlier but it looks like I may have been hallucinating!

Anyhoo...no one wants to eat tonight...have everything from Indoor Select to Wellness B & C to FF B&C...barely a nibble...

Rugs was at 95 at 7pm - I did not shoot. I must have messed her up with those 1/4 unit doses or they ended up being fur shots. I will test her before I hit the pillows tonight to see where she is and make a decision of what to do. I really don't want her to be a midnight dosing cat (especially since I can't do a noon shot!)or a 6 AM shot if she only needs 1 a day...It's easier for it to be 6 pm since I am home most nights (now that I have an excuse not to go to the gym! ha!). I can be a testing fool over the weekend to see what's happening between 4 hours and 12 hours to see what's going on during those hours I never get to test. I am not being delusion thinking that she is going to be a once a day cat...would be nice...but I can see I need lots more data. She was laying on the couch tonight and didn't run when I tested both ears - was a bit shocked after the 400s to have 95...other ear was 99. I hope she doesn't have something going on that is eluding us....You know how you just have a feeling something isn't right...but maybe what isn't right is diabetes and my radar is off.

Ah... a visitor at the Wellness B & C bowl...must be REALLY hungry..It's Plumpers (daughter of Miss Rugs). Ah...another visitor (Marie aka tube cat and mother to Miss Rugs) is at the Indoor Select bowl....now moved on to the Wellness B & C. There is hope! ANd Rugs is nibbling Wellness B&C and FF B&C and back to the Wellness...She likes the buffet setup so she can sample different course!

Night night!
