I don't want to be back here!

I'm posting here because I'm not an experienced insulin user. Putty was on Lantus for 10 days and I got him off with a switch to grain-free food. After 3-ish months off, it looks like his numbers are going up and I'm not sure how much insulin (if any) I should start him back on. I was thinking about 0.5 unit in the morning so I can watch him during the day? I'm nervous to start him with a dose tonight and go to sleep. His last 3 numbers are 269 215 189 (most recent first). He was running between 50-100 off insulin before. Thanks for any input!

It's only one day he's been up. Did he eat something that wasn't meant for him? Was he stressed about anything? Did he eat something bad for him in the last few days? How is he acting? Is he drinking, pee'ing and eating more? You could probably watch him for a couple more days before starting on insulin again. His numbers aren't overly high - although they've jumped up today. Lantus is a very gentle insulin if you do have to start him up again. If he were mine I would be keeping a close eye on him for a few more days - especially his behaviour - along with his numbers. If his numbers remain up start him on a small dose - .25 twice daily if you can measure it out.

You may also want to check to see if he's developing a uti or some other infection; that can throw things off, too.

his behavior is different like the first time he was diagnosed. usually follows me like a shadow. now just hanging out on the floor near his water or potty. didn't jump into bed with me. drinking and peeing more. we THINK he may have gotten a few nibbles of dog food but if so it was 3 days ago. If he continues to go up I will start him back on a low dose (0.25) like you suggested. thanks!
