I don't get these numbers

How could he have a perfect day three days ago and then it all falls apart? There has been no change in him. He is eating and acting the same.

But this is typical of him. He slowly cycles into good numbers, sometimes after a dose change, sometimes not, and then cycles back out again. It happens on any dose from .3u to .7u. It's usually a three day "dip" down from the low/mid 200s with the middle day being "perfect" like last Sunday was.

I am really stumped with him. I can't see raising the dose when he has dropped low on .6u an d.7u (30s) - that's during those "dips". Yet, his numbers don't get better (or worse) on less insulin.

Oh how I can relate, but at least with Musette I got it figured out I hope....She was doing so well coming down on her dosage, then I noticed her shaking her head and holding her ears funny...so off to the vet we go...Now I'm having to shoot around both an ear infection and the steroids being used to treat it...Poor baby girl has a horrible yeast infection in both ears.

It looks to me like he simply needs very gradual increases. I know you're hesitant to do that, but he finally gave some good numbers at .5U but now settled in to a higher cycle. Note that he's not had any more 300s since the first few days after the increase this time.

My suggestion would be to stay at .5U for a while longer, maybe get another curve before you increase again and if you can manage it, try .55U instead of a full .6U. I know that seems ridiculous to increase that small, but I found the tiniest increases would yield results.
 
My plan (because this is different than I have done in the past) was to hold .5u for a week after the nice curve day (I think that would be Sun) and then increase. Not sure if I will try .55u again. I did that this past summer, but I will have to look at his numbers.

Maybe I just have never raised him high enough. If each raise produces just 2-3 days of decent numbers, and I have gone to .7u, maybe I have to keep making these steps above that? Except it was on .6u and .7u that he dropped into the 30s....

I wish his buddy, Beau, would tell him how its done!
 
What meter are you using? Someone recently compared the ReliOn to another and the ReliOn was reading lower than the other by a good 50 points, consistently.

How old are the strips and are you storing them in a temp and moisture controlled location? High temps and moisture may make them less accurate.
 
It's a Contour meter, which I compared to two other brands and feel is accurate - beside, it's the same meter I have used for something like 18 months. Strips have 2012 exp date and are kept properly.

His numbers are changing. It isn't a "mechanical" problem.
