Our first day of testing and insulin injections complete!
I could not get a blood sample this am, even after 5 pricks. My poor kitty!
This evening I got a sample after 1 prick using the great suggestions on this page and from other forum members.
Thanks everyone!
Her blood glucose is 14.6. Down from 20 last night at the vets. She's eating and drinking well. I'm giving her a bit of tuna after as a treat.
Question: she's also on meds for her bowel- flagyl and panacur.
Could they affect her BGL?
I'm going to try to test before bed a few nights. She only has a few days left of the oral med.

Fantastic! I don't know whether those meds affect BG. Maybe someone else will chime in with an answer.

Nice going. Those first few times can be nerve wracking. Before you know it, you'll be a pro.

I massage Leo's ear before the pin prick. I massage up, pulling blood up into the ear lobe. He almost kind of likes it. Then when I do the pin prick, I hold a folded napkin behind his ear so I don't get poked. With this method, blood comes out pretty easily and consistently. Then right after, food or treats to reward my sweet boy.
