Is there any help with getting lantus? My cats insulin is three months old and I still can't get him regulated at home. After going into debt spending almost a thousand dollars in dec at the vet I'm at a loss and don't know what to do. I love my cat so much and I'm afraid he's not acting himself and I may try I g my best. Any help or advice would be so appreciated

Most of us are buying our Lantus from Canada because it's 1/3rd the price compared to the US

Here's all the information on Buying insulin from Marks Marine Pharmacy

A 5 pack of pens is $149.99 plus $25 shipping and that's enough to last most cats at least a year....and some up to 2 years. You can use the pens to the last drop too, unlike a vial that loses efficacy after 4-6 months and has to be thrown away

Are you testing his blood sugars at home? Testing at home can be much cheaper and more accurate than tests at the vet where he is stressed.

If yo are storing the vial in the fridge and caring for it properly, you should get 5-6 months out of it.

Hi and welcome.

If you have stored your Lantus in the refrigerator and it is clear and has no floaties in it, it is probably still good.

There are probably other reasons why your cat isn't regulated. If you could set up our spreadsheet and record all your readings there, as well as supply us with some basic info about your kitty, we may be able to help you figure out what's going on.

Here are the instructions for setting up the spreadsheet: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/ If you need help with that, just ask.

It will help you to help your cat if you read the stickies at the top of the Lantus & Levemir page, starting with New to the Group?

Please tell us some more about you and your kitty, so we can help you. Let's start with:
Kitty's name.
Your name.
Location (city, state, country, whatever you feel comfortable with sharing - we mainly need to know what time zone you're in).
Date of diagnosis.
Kitty's age and weight.
Any other health issues/meds?
What kind of meter do you use (assuming you are home testing)?
What are you feeding?

These are all bits of info that most of us put in our signature block, because they help determine the kind of suggestions others will make.

Also check The Supply Closet regularly on the forum, as there are members posting extra supplies there for a small cost or free.
