Okay friends, wish me and Chewy luck today! I am going to Raleigh to the animal shelter to visit Chewy, a diabetic owner surrender cat. DCIN contacted me, and asked if I would go evaluate Chewy in hopes that they can "Rescue" him! I am going this afternoon, with the local president of our Humane Society, to evaluate Chewy! I talked with the shelter represenative yesterday, and per Venita's advice, they have changed him from dry to wet food and have seen a drop in his blood sugar. Yesterday, they said he was running in the 200s.

I HATE going to shelters and seeing all the animals that need homes. But, I am more than willing to put my feelings aside if I can help Chewy!

So, keep Chewy in your thoughts today and keep everything crossed that he is okay.

I will keep you updated!

Re: I am Excited!!!!!!

Kim that is so awesome, as much as you hate this &^%$# dance you seem to becoming an official spokeswoman.

I can't wait to read your update.

Re: I am Excited!!!!!!

What a wonderful thing you are doing, Kim. Best of luck and I hope everything goes as well as possible!

Re: I am Excited!!!!!!

Keeping you and Chewy of course in my prayers today. Looking forward to a report tonight.

Re: I am Excited!!!!!!

Mornin' Kim -

Keep me tuned in as well. I'm home today - prime weather outside, day off, John is coming to help with the roof project... all of which means poor Gray is getting poked for his curve every time I come down the ladder! Poor guy - as if the weekend curves weren't already long enough for him!!! He & Paulo are on Dom's bed curled up... poor Dom is on the hard floor next to them! :-D

Re: I am Excited!!!!!!

I know how you feel about going to the shelters
breaks my heart every time, I always want to bring them home!
Good luck with Chewy! I hope he finds a new home....
Bless your heart Kim!

Re: I am Excited!! I have HIM!

HEY!

I have Chewy! He is a BIG orange boy....Robin??????

I will get into details later, but give me your thoughts...I just tested 344--I fed FF. Kitty has agreed to share her Prozinc with him....what do you think I should start with---.5 or 1 Unit? He has been on wet food all week, so I am not expecting a big drop from the food?

St.Sue---Chewy needs a SS!

Let me know if you need to weigh him to help in determining the dose... got Janet's baby scale at my house... just weighed the whole gang a week or two ago!

How come I knew you were bringing him home...
kinda reminds me of Petunia....Where is Barbara
anyway, my feeling is since you dont know him at all
I would shoot .50 tonight, has he been on isulin before?
If not then definatley .50

Are you gonna keep his name?
I do love the name

How cool! What do Kitty and Sally think about this interloper?

I will get a ss set up for him.

I don't know about dose. Wonder if the food has really affected the bg level downward as much as it will. I think I would play it safe and go with .5. If it doesn't do anything, you can always raise.

Awwww a big Orinch Boy. Watch out he'll steal your heart in a beat.

Since today might have been stressfull for him I think I would go with .5u.

Hasn't he been getting insulin yet?

Is it me or does it feel as if we are at the arrival of a new baby? This is so exciting. It's like we are all gathered at Kim's house Ooooing and Ahhhing.

No, he has not been on insulin. This will be his first shot. I agree, I think .5 is a good starting dose. He was eating when I got to the shelter, BUT he just turned his nose up to the FF. Do you think I am still okay with shooting the dose if he doesn't eat? They free feed in the shelter, so I know he has eaten today. And, Yes, I will check for ketones asap!

Shoot the .5?

He ate a little. I think this is all just "too New" for him! I shot the .5-- I normally take the food up after I shoot Kitty, well really there is never any left, but I am going to leave it down for him.

He is skin and bones and needs to eat!

I have some pics on my phone...I am not a techie...but, I will try to upload them here.

Awsome! I'm kinda bias on the big orange boys too! How long has he been a diabetic?

Hoping he gets regulated real soon and gets some weight back on. Look forward to seeing some pictures.

Lori

LOL! I was just getting on to check up on you. Venita posted that Lu had him though? I was gonna say Kim needs another cat since she ditched Petunia! And I thought of Robin also....how many do you have now Robin??? Kim you are becoming quite the cat rescue person. Good for you!

Chewy is only staying short term! DCIN has a permanent foster home for him, but while he is here, maybe with your help we can get him on the right track!

He is really pretty and very mild, BUT I don't need another CAT!

Sure you do..how far away is the beach house? He can be the beach cat.

Hey Barbara! How is Thumper? Do you have Lantus down to a science?!

Chewy is staying with me through the weekend, he might move to Lu's depending on how long he stays-- we will see. He is going to be transported out at some point.

GIve my Love to Petunia.....Have you heard about my Dog?!!! She is diabetic!

I sorta like Lantus cause I'm not always trying to figure out what to shoot but this girl still bounces all over the place...there has been some discussion about trying Levemir but we'll see.

You told me about the dog I think it was the day you found out. She was your dad's, right?

I thought Kim was still in Alaska?!?
Beach house kitty sounds nice...
How is PEtunia Babara?

I don't think Kitty liked the cold so she went back to NC....just in time to save Sally!

Petunia.....she is so bad. She is the smallest one here but wants to be the cat in charge. She is a good playmate for my wild man Petey though. She wakes DH up in the morning by batting at his face....with her claws! :o She's such a brat I wonder if that's why she was on the street!

Oooo....watch out you are going to have a new cat with all of your friends support here.

Forget foster home, he is at home.

You are a angel taking care of Chewy. He is going to love you for it.

Hey Barbara, it's good to see you around the hood after you moved uptown.

Sorry but I still have too many kitties.

Funny that Ms. Petunia, the new kitty on the block wants to rule the roost.

I think we need to start a chip in to get Kim a sign to hang over her door that say's "Sugarland Express" :-D

Kim,
You ABSOLUTELY rock!!!
If I ever adopt a sugarkitty, he or she must be brownish in color just so I can name it Brown Sugar....
the only thing this thread lacks is....
"You guys crack me up!"
Carl

Kim,
I do admire your for even temporarily adopting Chewy. I'm not sure I could do it.

Hey Barbara,
I have been thinking about you and wondering how things are going for Thumper. Miss you!

God bless you Kim for helping Chewy out, your'e an angel on earth o:-) : ) Sure you don't want to adopt him?
Hi Barbara, long time no see, glad you are finding Lantus easier even if Thumper is still bouncing around.
