Hi all - I joined a few years ago with Stinky.

Now I have Marcus

He has a sad story. He is 11 and was turned into a kill shelter. He is also diabetic.

The claim was that he was "aggressive" to the children. After him being here for a few days, the only aggression he has shown is to canned food and getting petted. He takes the shots like a champ and is vocal.
He will be locked in the guest room at least until Sunday. He has been sneezing and his one eye is a little watery. I assume he has a respiratory infection. I have a vet appointment for him Sunday at 5:30, which I made as soon as I could so his diabetes can get checked her (not my regular doc - she was not available until late April so I am seeing a different one)

I think he will be a super loving cat. So far his only interaction with any of his housemates was a brief through the door sniffing of Rasmus, which had no growling or swinging and a little hissing.

Right now he is on 2 units of ProZinc twice a day. he is eating great and has no box issues
Being my second, this has been easier so far (I lost Stinky a few years ago). I have not tested him yet as he just moved in.

Congratulations on your new sugar baby. Hopefully soon he will let you start testing him. He is a handsome boy.

You can give him L-lysine to help with the respiratory issues. If you have other cats it would be a good idea to give it to all of them since respiratory infections can easily spread between them.

I am keeping him totally isolated so far to avoid that

I want to wait to test him until my vet checks him. I don't totally trust the shelter vet and also want to see how the vet wants him tested
I am glad that I have a place that has Sunday appointments!

Hi and welcome back. Thank you for taking in Marcus. Lucky boy.
Keep us posted on his progress please.
Are you going to set up a SS?
Is SS the tracking spreadsheet? I probably will

He saw the vet today. Waiting for his complete bloodwork. She liked that he has put on some weight since I got him and that he is not overly drinking water.

The only issue with going to the vet is that he used the carrier as a litterbox 5 minutes into the 30 minute drive to the appointment!

A quick update - after his visit and initial bloodwork, I am decreasing his insulin to 1 unit twice a day. He will also be tested before each shot until I can do a curve (Saturday). His glucose was just fine yesterday when tested, a few hours before he was due a shot

Of course I am hoping that he has gone into remission or was misdiagnosed. Like with any diabetic cat, it will take some time and additional testing
The good news is that he is eating normally, has put on some weight and is not drinking a ton of water.

Maybe it was the stress of the shelter that elevated him some too

Hi can you please add what meter, to your signature and your spreadsheet up top
Thank you :cat: And can you add when he was diagnosed on your spreadsheet too
Do you know what dosing method you want to follow

Did you give insulin today? It's not filled in on your SS in the unit cell
Thanks - I will add more to it.

The dosing is a little up in the air since he came from a shelter. Right now he gets tested before each shot and will get his first curve (from me at least) this weekend.

Thanks for adding the information to your SS, can you also add it to your signature because that's the first information members will look at
So just add meter, food is it low carb wet or combo ( lc wet and dry)
and SLGS. Thanks Tom. BTW the pic of Marcus he's adorable

Running a glucose curve today (or trying!). He is tricky to test. As soon as I get some blood he is very good at shaking his head and it is gone. The meter has been a pain too as it picks up the blood then I get the "Lo" error (and at least one time there was a ton of blood on it). I am not going to get a result for 8 PM, and will try again at 10 PM right before his shot.

The good news is that in the middle of the day he wet down to just over 100 so I might be on the right track. And now tomorrow I think I will do a full introduction to the others
