HELP!!!

I am back - not sure if anyone is still here from before & will remember me - but unfortunately i have another kitty diabetic!

It has been 9+ yrs since Blackie & Jackie, so I may need some refreshers! Patches is almost 10 & her test at vet was 624! She is not eating & is on 200 fluids day. Nothing showed up in urine, so that was good! I am a wreck again & I do not like this feeling! She is not doing well at all..hiding, not walking much and generally looks like she is giving up. I have a pit in my stomach and a migraine and my hubby is crying. This is my only girl cat and I CAN'T LOSE HER!!!!

Vet has her on PZI 2u twice a day. Yesterday, she got 2u at vets around 3pm & i tested her again at 7:00pm, & she is 540....not as big of a drop as i would have liked but....i will take it!! She initially went in because she is prone to crystals & has been on Royal Canin SO for it..Her urine did not show any crystals this time...no keotones or anything.

I think there may be some pancreatitis going on as well, I just called him to get some anti-nausea meds and some appetite stimulant as well.

My hubby thinks we should just take her back and leave her overnight. :(

Hi,

I am sorry your Patches is not feeling good. Pancreatitis is hard on them. I hope the anti-nausea and appetite stimulant helps out and she feels better. Did they offer anything for pain relief for the pancreatitis or are they still waiting on confirmation through the blood work?

I am sure her numbers will drop once she feels better.

Hi welcome. Sorry your baby is not feeling well remember not to give anti nausea with appetite stimulant. Give antinausea time to work. If given both there could become an adversion to food. Maybe a more experienced member could comment if I'm wrong. My baby has pancreatitis and they take a lot out of them. But get some anti nausea like zofran and anti vomitting like cerenia. Pain meds because it is very painful. I give gabapentin, and buprenex for pain. Hope you furbaby is feeling better soon!! Thank you for giving her a chance.

Is welcome back appropriate? Noah is old, his brother was diabetic, my wife and I both get migraines, the real kind. Hi Patches, we're going to get you all fixed up okay. Same place, same nice people I wish I knew with Nigel, life would have been so much easier.

Sorry you're having a hard time. Once the pancreatitis is resolved we can deal better with getting the numbers under control. Right now the focus is on getting her to eat.

dr is not confirming pancreatitis at this time. He believes it is just her extremely high sugar counts. Right now we are staying on 2u PZI twice a day and 200 fluids daily. :(

Sorry you have to star the sugar dance again. Did you use PZI for Jackie and Blackie? Will you be setting up a Spreadsheet for Patches? Can you get some FortiFlora to sprinkle on her food? I've heard some people say their cat would eat cardboard with that stuff sprinkled on it :p. Apologies for the other questions too. I hope we can help you get her numbers under control. I am curious why Vet started her on 2.0U instead of 1.0U.

so sorry your going thru this again but at least you have the knowledge to help Patches.
so ,any wise people here that will help you with any questions:bighug::bighug:

Just food for thought.... we used PZI as well and it did not last nearly long enough for my sugar boy-
we switched to lantus which lasted longer but the drops were too big to keep him safe. Lev is the best choice for us :bighug:

Sorry to see you have a new diabetic kitty. The big trick is to get that BG count down. I don't know your history, but if you did it before you have some good experience to rely on. I like PZI, but Leo's dose is high so the PZI is too expensive.

she still wants NOTHING to do with food no matter what i try. Have already tried AD, fancy feast, tuna, baby food.....:'(

Has she eaten anything, even dry food? You may have to get a syringe and assist feed. Probably another trip to the vet

Yes on syringe feeding. Also you could make some light gravy food out of tuna or cat food. Maybe she will kind of drink it up.

Patches is really throwing me for a loop. She got her 150 fluids this evening and was VERY active and smelling food and ALMOST ate something. She is drinking and peeing and even took a small poop!
Then, she tested 195!! Yes, I said 195! I just posted earlier today about her not getting out of the 300's. SO CONFUSED! So, I was nervous about giving her normal 2u, so I only gave 1 1/2u. She got that around 7pm. How long should I wait before retesting? I want to do a spot check to see where she is after being 195. Then, I will syringe some baby food if she won't eat.
WOW - what a roller coaster.

recap: so she was 195 this evening, gave her 1 1/2u - she is not eating at all anything....and 3 hrs later she has increased to 202....should i have kept her at 2u?

I think it was better to play safe with the reduction for PS under 200, even if it was just barely under :). The number could be lower if she hasn't been wanting to eat. Has she been tested for ketones?

she seems to have a cold now. i hear congestion and i see stuff on her nose and sniffling and stuffy. What in the world can i give her when she is having issues with nausea and not eating already?????????????????????
