just got the call from the Vet about Moxies thyroid test. Her throid is low. Vet said it is very rare in cats. She doesn't know the cause, but it could be related to her diabetes, uri and nasty teeth. No treatment as of now. From what I understood, they might wait to see how she is after her abx are done and if I can get her BG regulated. She said her whole endocrine system could be off bc her pancreas and liver are off from the diabetes. Has anyone else had a cat w hypothyroidism?

My GA kitty had borderline low thyroid. In his case it was caused by Cushing's, which he had in addition to diabetes. Hypothyroid is considered relatively rare in kitties.

The vet said it is very rare. I'm wondering if that is what is causing the diabetes? Or if something else entirely is causing both?

In Tuxie's case it was most likely the Cushing's that caused the low thyroid, Normally a kitty can become hypothyroid after having radioactive treatment for hyperthyroid. If the diagnosis was done just with the T4 test, you could ask for a free T4 and T3 test to verify the findings.

How low was the thyroid reading from the normal range?

Here is some reading on hypothyroidism:
