Luckily I haven't had to post on here for a long time, but I need some advice.

Peaches has been stable on 1 u Lantus twice a day, with green sugars, not too many yellows. (Sorry never posted a SS)

Last night before she was due for her evening dose, she started acting funny, howling, walking in circles, wobbly etc....classic hypo. SHE WAS 29!!!!!!!!! I gave her corn syrup, she ate some high carb food, threw up, so we did it again. I skipped her insulin of course and her BG came up. Now this morning it's 440!

Do I give her her regular 1 unit?

Hi LIndsay. I am not familiar with Lantus and would suggest you post on the Lantus board. I am sure you will get some help there that is specific to Lantus. I just checked and there appears to be some users available that may be able to help you.

Last week Hannah had a near hypo (low of 59) which I treated with high carb food, and the next morning she was 518, but it only lasted that 12-hour cycle. Peaches' high number is probably the same type of bounce (lookup Somogyi effect). I can't help with the Lantus dose question, unfortunately. I only have experience with shorter-acting insulin. I like the suggestion of posting to the Lantus board. Hopefully you can get a response from someone with Lantus experience. Otherwise, I'd err on the side of caution. I was advised last week to drop the dose back to be on the safe side, and that was with Vetsulin. I would think with a long-lasting insulin with a cumulative effect like Lantus that advice would be even more applicable.

Jennifer is right... a number below 100 earns a decrease so if you are at 1u then drop back to .75u. That's what I have been advised. See how that works for six cycles.

She earned a reduction of 0.25 units.

BUT ... after a hypo, may be more sensitive to insulin, so maybe go with 0.5 and monitor her.

Yes.
It really helps to have more data ( bg tests) but it sounds like the dose has been too high.
The high numbers are her liver reacting after dropping really low.

It might be good to start over at 0.25u or 0.5 u if you are monitoring before shots and at least one time during each cycle.

Please tell us more about Peaches.
