Last condo 5/31, been so busy

Not marking as 911 because his numbers are going up.

Holy crap I was not expecting 43, I randomly just woke up to give him midnight snacks and I moved with the QUICKNESS. Sometimes I leave food out before I go to bed and sometimes I forget. As soon as I saw that number I rubbed honey on his gums and he went right for his regular pate and ate a bit. I waited 10 minutes and tested again, up to 55, and another test after another 10 minutes, 69. Now he’s drinking water. He’s not showing any symptoms, walking around fine, he’s not finishing his food but he’s happy to have all my attention right now and purring up a storm. I’ll be up all night! I just brought him to the vet last Friday for Pee Gate and they said his fructosamine levels were pretty high and said to increase his dose and I decided to wait. No clue what to do after this as far as dosecreasing.

Glad to see Loki is coming back up. Those random sharp drops are really scary! I hope he continues to climb out of it.

Your boy is gorgeous...I had a Loki cat, too, many years ago. He was a mischief maker, lived up to the name!

He went through about 4 different names until Loki stuck, and he’s definitely earned it! It’s all chaos 24/7, but he’s just so cute that he gets away with it. Luckily this morning we are doing much better!

Woooo!!! Just gave him his morning shot and think I managed to measure out 1.75 on the half unit syringe... even if it’s not exact, it was less than where I usually measure the 2 so it’ll be less relatively.
 
I stayed up with baby boy until I got two consecutive numbers above 100 and then had to pass out for a few hours. AMPS was 223. He knocked the squeezie honey bear bottle off the table at some point in the night, no doubt he wasn’t fond of my emergency reaction lol. I’ve been dreading a hypo ever since he got diagnosed and now that we’ve had our first episode and came through ok, I feel a huge relief.
 
Good catch last night? Was Loki showing any hypo symptoms? The 40's is lower than we want cats on insulin to go, so we have a little margin of safety. Some cats not on insulin test in the 40's on their own. For next time, you might want to have some high carb wet food around. That way you don't need to rub honey on his gums. Most cats love the gravy from high carb food.

No symptoms at all, I couldn’t believe the test at first! He was just his usual doofy self and begging me to go to bed and cuddle. I have some Friskies shreddies in gravy which I think are higher carb (16.6%?) but I was only thinking to get him back up ASAP and he didn’t seem super interested in his food (not uncommon for him after midnight if he grazes on his dinner). I couldn’t get him to eat his food after the honey either. I think if it happens again I’ll see if he’ll go for one of those first. Luckily he hasn’t bounced super high (yet) from the honey, got a nice 146 at +6 today.
 
HC is 16% and above, so what you have could work. Cats vary in how carb sensitive they are, so you'll have to experiment and see. As you did notice, the honey works if needed. I used to just put a drop of syrup on regular food, instead of putting my fingers in Neko's mouth. :eek:
